Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Robson, Reid, Kerr or King Kenny?

Simple Question, it seems the job is between the 4 of the above, who do we want to get the job?

I gotta say King Kenny. He has won things as a manager and won everything there is to win as a player in England and Scotland and there has not been many better players over the last 30 years..

None of the others quite match up. But all the same, its the best of a bad lot!

I went for Kerr solely because he has done so much for the youth sides here. Hel have the knowledge of the players coming up through the ranks.

Otherwise its King Keny all the way

Given the choice above, I'd defo go for Kerr, with Kenny in second place. I don't rate Reid or Rodson.

Kerr for his knowledge of the younger players and international tournament experience.

    Mike.

    I went for Kerr.
But i would like to see Kenny get it, Kerr as assistant. Not much chance of that happening though.

So long as that sack Robson doesn't get it.

This is basically a no brainer. It has to be Kerr. I haveto say I was not behind him from the start but after many weeks of thinking, drinking, fighting and debating ...... it has to be Kerr. Strenghts minus weaknesses and he is the winner in all cases.

Without a doubt it has to be Kerr, its a complete no brainer the guy has earned it.

    Gandalf

(then again it is the FAI we are dealing with so anything is possible!!)

the trouble with appointing Kerr is that he already is an FAI Man,will he be able to implement the gensis report findings aswell as an outsider coming in?

For any hope of a couple of weeks in the sun in Portugal (and **** the big picture, 2004 is what its all about at the moment), it has to be Kerr.

sry my fury got the better of me for that last post.

IT CANT BE KERR. If we want to take irish football to the next level then we cant give the job to a current fai man.

Someone has to be put in place, who can use the FAI budjet well, who well perpare the players for international, liek players would be prepared for any game in the premiership. Otherwise were shooting ourselves in the foot. Its liek the FAI will just be complacent, we have a really good chance to make a great side.

Kerr has proved himself with the youths, Will have great knowledge of up coming stars and with ireland having such a young team as it is Kerr managed most of them in the youth teams. And hopefully will bring in some young homegrown talent like Crowe, imo mick saw it as if you dnt play in england then you cnt get on the team!!! Give it to Kerr!!! come on the irish!!!

    Kerr all the way,

He has already proven that he won't take any **** from the FAI.

Joe Kinnear was talking today and stated " I don't do interviews"
yes he was approached by Bryan Hamilton, who asked not unreasonably if he'd be willing to be considered on a list of 8 (I think). No was the answer. It seems Joe thinks his football history is enough evidence of his greatness.

yes, seems like Kerr is the favorite here, lets get a man in that has little hope of a decent wage packet should the FAI sack him, yeah he'll stand up to the FAI, jeeze.

plz plz plz let them pick daglish

It seems King Kenny is out of the running, though Trousier in still in.

bleh. Then the only really qualified manager imo is out of the running :(

And so FAI quality decisions live on.

Interesting article in today's indo with info on the short-list. Claims Kerrs interview was very impressive.
Aldridge and Stapleton make FAI's short-list. The list also includes Brian Kerr, Peter Reid, Bryan Robson, Kevin Moran and Philippe Troussier but, surprisingly, Kenny Dalglish is no longer a contender for the €400,000 a year post.
    Article here.

I'd like to see Robson get it. I think he's a very good manager. He just didn't have any luck at 'Boro.

Did anyone read that when Charlton got the job back in the day, Bob Paisley was also on the short-list !!!
Friggin nuts or what (if you know who he was)...

Eh? I trust everyone knows the legend that is Bob Paisley!

Its amazing, to think what he could have done with the squad
that Charlton had at his disposal.

If Kerr can get a AAA assistant manager/coach I would not mind, otherwise I would not be in favour..

Under 16's and 18's and Full Internationals are totally different..

He would not have the players support as a "nobody". As Mick McCarthy said about players in the Eircom league; if he was good enough he would be in England. Big difference between Man U and Liverpool and St Pats :)

Kevin Moran is an intresting one, he is a great business man and was a great player, again if he got a good assistant??

you really really really have no brain do you? No luck? He bought his way into the Premiership, which is easy enough to do, but when he actually had to 'manage' he failed completely, he looked like a rabbit in an oncoming cars headlights.

lol... I give my opinion and I get told I have no brains. Yes he bought the wrong players. Players who were disloyal to him and players who didn't have any pride in their jersey but at least this time he will have players willing to fight to win and there will not be any players being bought because this is international football. He obviously knows what he is getting himself into. And also the fact that Roy Keane has a very good relationship with Robson. I'd doubt if he'd treat Kerr with the same respect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 857 ✭✭✭kamobe

What bloody age is Keane? He's wrecked, not gonna be around too much longer, esp when he keeps going under the knife. He has shag all interest in playing for Ireland long term. He *might* play for the European Cup, we don't know. But Keane should have NOTHING to do with the choosing of a new manager. A manager should definately not be chosen, just because he likes Keane, or vice versa.

Roy Keane has a very good relationship with Robson
That has been thrown about a lot...

Have you read keanos book, they were drinking buddies when they were both into that kinda thing. Now neither of them drink so they have **** all in common, you may as well say Frank Stapleton has a "good relationship" with ROk so he should be manager...

Robson got Boro relegated when he had spent a fortune..

Robson would have gotten Boro relegated again if El Tel had not been brougt in to sort things out a couple of years later...

You may as well appoint Galdalf as manager, as he knows as much about managing a soccer team as Robbo does..

I'm surprised the FAI didn't approach someone like Wim Yansan. He is a man with a good reputation and is admired by his peers, especially after winning the league with Celtic in his first and last season. The main candidates are either inexperienced or have messed up at previous clubs. But I would probably choose Kerr.

Oh yeah players like David 'I didn't get a callup the first time so now I'm going to hold my breath until I get sick!!' Connolly.

Or even Jason fu<king McAteer, who was packing his bags after being left out of the Germany game by McCarthy

Roy Keane can fu<k right off as far as I'm concerned, I hope he never plays in an Ireland shirt again. He obviously doesn't want to anyway, he knows his bread & butter comes from extending his club career until he's around 36, and he won't jeopardise that by playing for Ireland.

Bryan Robson is a hopeless manager, Kerr or Troussier would both do a way better job.

So? They won't be in the starting 11 anyway. Maybe if someone is injured or something.
