Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I seem to recall Regi mentioning that the database on it's own is over 1Gb in size.

just on a matter of interest, how arethe hard drives setup?
    IDE RAID? SCSI? SCSI RAID?

Ye've a gig of ram in her atm don't ye?

    and dual P3 733.

Don't suppose ye know what controller card is in it?

    wouldnt a MP 2200 own 2 * 733's ?

what kind of load are the processors under?

is there anything else running off the server?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,446 ✭✭✭✭amp

Probably Stan, and very kind of you to offer to donate said processor. Plus I think there's some kind of multi-threading shennigans that works better with dual cpu's.

So, can we get a full spec on the new server so that all us nerds can self-gratify ourselves into a frenzy?

Given the loads boards.ie experiences beteween Apache and MySQL dual processors (SMP) probably allow for better performance.

And any way, it's not a *real* server unless it's got 2 processors ;)

We've two scsi drives, 1.7Gb of ram, 2x733 processors (using SMP as people pointed out here).

We're not processor bound, there isnt that much processing to do to be honest. We keep the (unix) load below 2 as much as possible (which is pretty much all the time).

We're bound by the diskspeed...the machine simply cant get the info off those drives as fast as it needs to... so the server is pretty much serving flat out (you cant get much better then being Hard-disk-bound...)

Any other tech questions and I'll try to get answers for them...

what kind of disks? how many? interface? speed? :)

There's 4 Ultra 3 SCSI drives, the mysql installation has one to itself, to try to speed up access to it. The mysql database for boards is currently weighing in at 741 Mb.

There's almost exactly 210 Mb of stuff in the /members area, and about 250 Mb of other misc boards stuff floating around in there. That's mostly movies/images/old boards stuff.
