If you're running NT, win2k or XP (on NTFS) it's no problem - right-click, make a dive for the Security tab and fanny's yer aunt.

If not, you'll have to use a 3rd party app

Or, if you're just looking to hide some porn:rolleyes: why not password protect a zip file then put it inside another password-protected zip file?

How did you guess!?! Nah, just kidding.

I'm running windows98 and I have doc files that I password protect but it's a pain in the ass having to set them and then type the password everytime I want to open one. So I figured if I had a folder I could put em in that would take care the 'security' then I wouldn't have to do it anymore.

Any apps out there that can do it?

Invisible Secrets 4 uses steganography to protect your files so nobody will know your secret files exist. It also includes other security features, such as a HD shredder and a tool to let you password-protect any program on your PC.

Another tip for the porn digger
Don't forget to rename the pw protected zip file to .pdf(porn.zip to porn.pdf) or something that won't even ask you for a password, it just says acro cannot open this file, works with AVI's MPG's etc

Loads of experience... and gigs of porn

Bah, I scoff at your ingenuity. Put the rar files with different extensions on to a series of CDs, cut them into small pieces with a scissors, place in a series of envelopes in a darkened room, bury some in the garden and send the remainder to heads of state around the world smuggled in their morning salad and to ambassadors hidden in their Ferrero Rocher (everyone knows this is the only thing ambassadors eat). Your partner, significant other or parent will never see your porn, illegal music collection or stalking letters to Greta Garbo.

of course neither will you, but hey, it's reasonably secure:)

Or get the ctk build of PGP, with PGPdisk - mount / unmount your secure 'drive' when needed. No need to muck about renaming file extensions, or break into diplomat's houses with a tube of loctite cause you want to listen to cool_tune-downloaded_illegally.mp3*.

    *Or rather watch britney_and_christina_giving_head.mpg
