A laptop which has one network card is brought to the office and home. At the office it get's on the network through a dhcp server. At home it has it's own static ip like 192.168.0.2. Is it possible to have two lan icons in the network connections area in win2kpro using only one network card. Then he could disable "Home" when at work ..etc.

    Any ideas?

would be an idea to renew his dhcp setting in the office after reenabling the office and disabling the home, otherwise spot on

try using dhcp at home as well, then one connection icon would do and then

    ipconfig /release
    wait 5 secs
    ipconfig /renew

in a batchfile he runs at each 'site' for its settings

    Slect-a-net software is another option.

Allows multiple LAN settings and you just pick the network you want to join. Home, work etc...

It available online, just search for it.

Actually, if it's a pcmcia network card then win2k stores network settings based on which slot the card is plugged into.

So with the card in one slot set it up for one of the two networks.

When you take the machine to the other network, swap the card into the second pcmcia slot and set it up for the second network.

As long as you remember which slot is for which network, windows 2000 will do the same for you.

    Quite handy really.

Go to the properties of your network connection, then got to the TCP/IP properties. Then set it to use DHCP, then click the Advanced butten. In IP Settings Click the "Add..." butten under IP Address. Add the address you want to use at home and bobs your uncle. If the system see's traffic for the address added, it will use that IP address. But it will only do one at a time AFAIK

IE: it cant connect to a PC on both ranges at the same time.

Dont forget to add the correct Subnet mask as well
