    Slayer.

Jesus, those guys get on my nerves. I was talking to this guy who was trying to convince me that everything I was listening to Slayer were responsible for, and that Slayer invented both Death Metal, and Thrash Metal...

Completely and utterly devoid of any idea of who the hell 'Venom' were.

Jesus, those feckers get credited with so much that they just dont deserve.

I remember when I was in sound-cellar, and the guy that works there, who is possibly the only person who shares my dis-taste for Slayer, told of some cheeky bastard about it. He said something like "I'm sure we wouldn't have big widescreen TVs these days if it wasn't for little black and white peices of crap, but that doesn't mean we should all go watching those peices of crap out of respect."

Had me laughing my head off.

LOL... I knew you'd say Slayer. Yeah they are a little overrated. Kerry King is overrated anyway. He has absolutely no melody to any of his solos and he shows off at every chance. Hanneman is ten times better IMO.

The band who I think is the most overrated band has to be Dark Tranquillity. I know a few of you out there think they're a class band but I can't see any reason why they should be anywhere better than In Flames or Sentenced. Their vocalist doesn't hardly ever sing, its all "I think I'm a big tough death metaller" type vocals. Yet people say he's a better vocalist than Anders Friden. No way. I'm sorry but thats the way I see it.

and you're SO right. They made quite a lot of good stuff but the fact they're the biggest band worldwide makes no sense.

Besides they're EVERYWHERE and everytime there's some competition they must win half of the awards.... screw them, didn't they have enough?!? Probably they're helped by the fact that there aren't many *good* Irish band at the mo

Well, clearly you haven't heard any of Dark Tranquillity's last 3 - 4 albums lol. But anyway, I think In Flames used to be far better, much better songwriting and proper guitar solos instead of DT's dodgy solo attempts. But looking at their latest albums, I think Damage done is perhaps DT's best album (havent heard them all though), and Reroute to Remain is just terrible, I have to change radio stations when that crap comes on :(

But back to the over-rated bands thing, there are really far too many too name nowadays, IMO EVERY band that becomes "famous" nowadays is over-rated.

/me is listening to Nirvana - You know your right

Hey, stop with the nirvana bashing, please direct all that anger towards band who are more diserving like Sum-41, The Hives and such.

Alice in Chains are a way better grunge band.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,420 ✭✭✭Doodee

    Its a matter of opinien.

and u can tell from the poles that alot more favour nirvana.
I dont find em overrated, but the **** with Kurt Cobain is.

Nirvana were over rated but they were a very good band all the same. same goes for the beatles

i also think the following are over rated: GNR, metallica, megadeth, iron maiden (though they aint bad!), most nu metal (cept soad and a few others, all that pop crap etc

Id be inclined to disagree with you on this one, their a great band and they arent very highly thought of (under rated if anything) just listen to songs such as Nether Novas, fabric, ego drama, or Undo Control, all truely superb songs. Vocals wise, they have the edge on In Flames, guiat wise they arent within a street of in flames tho, but their music is still good never the less.

As far as over rated go, id say: SaoD, U2, Nirvana, more or less any nu metal band, and to an extent metallica.

Sorry lads... I just haven't heard anything from Dark Tranquillity that really makes me want more and more of their stuff like In Flames and Sentenced do. In fact its quite the opposite. Sorry I've tried and I'm afraid to say that they've failed the test.

You seem to pair In Flames and Sentanced quite often, so can i assume they play a similar style of music? Dont have enough melodic death in my playlist, looking for more good bands :)

Most overated band has to be Pantera. They only have a handful of good songs, yet people seem to think they are the thrash gods of the 90's:p

Christ! I can't believe you just said that! Handful of good songs?! You say Cowboys From Hell, Vulgar Display of Power, Far Beyond Driven, The Great Southern Trendkill and Reinventing the Steel only have a handfull of good songs on them?! Open your ears man! I've listened to just about every metal band out there apart from AW's type of stuff :p and I still find that Pantera are miles above the rest of them.

Behemoth would rip Pantera apart tbh. :p

Id actually strongly agree with this! (kill me later pornapster :p)

I like Pantera, but I find they get boring when you listen to the same album a couple of times. Their lyrics are completely useless, and their rythm parts are very simple at times. They sound a bit too "american" for my tastes as well lol. I agree with eric, lots of their albums seem to have plenty of "fillers" after the first few tracks that are released as singles.

    furious.gifI'LL KILL YOU ALL!!! furious.gif

Pantera rule over all! OK?! :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,978 ✭✭✭✭Stark

yeah - the strokes - whats with them ?

Agreed in fact all the current "the" bands seem to be totally overrated. Especially the Hives. The first single was a rip off of Debaser, second single was a rip off of the first single, and the third single was a rip off of at the drive in's one armed scissors.

Also, and I'll probably get flamed to hell for this: i think the beatles were overrated.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

I'd say even Hanson are better than Pantera.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,980 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Yeah but them Hanson chicks are pretty hot!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 351 ✭✭Darkillion

i agree the beatles were over rated, but damn good all the same. and, although u were probably joking, all of hansen were male
