Just wondering if it was worth having a POCKETPC forum, and I suppose to be fair there would also have to be a PALM forum.

Could be good for those of us who use PDAs and wish to discuss software updates, patches, freeware, commercial progs etc.

    Just a thought.

Yes a PocketPC board is a definite must.

Seems to be a glaring omission in the Technology section.

Might also cover the emerging TabletPC spec?

Surely there's not enough interest to break it down into sub forums (fora?!) like "PocketPC","Palm","Tablet", etc. ... wouldn't it be best to just have a "Handheld Computing" forum and leave it at that?

I know I'd use it anyway, - for the Palm.

Haven't seen a whole lot of discussion about these, but then I guess it could be in the forums I'm not subbed to. If it was me though, I'd be more inclined to do a catch-all, something like "Mobile Computing".

    Just my slightly tarnished 2¢.

Yes, 'Handheld' or 'Mobile' computing will do nicely

I'd agree with the suggestion of a general handheld/PDA forum. I'm a palm user myself and it would be good to swap info about the product.

The main reason I'd keep the forums seperate (or sub-forums if you will) is because of the wealth of utilities, programs, scripts, enhancements etc. out there that are 'different' for each operating system.

I can forsee lots of multiple posts, common threads, repeat questions and endless 'this has already been addressed' posts when people talk about software in a single forum, because of the confusion (especially with newbies) between the various operating systems and PDA devices.

Setup a Mobile Computing area? ... great idea.

Create sub-forums within that ... even better idea.

There are actually quite a lot of topics which could be discussed in this context such as:-

    1) Security
    2) Utilities
    3) Enhancements
    4) Games
    5) Productivity Software
    6) Specialist Requirements/Software
    7) Freeware vs Shareware vs Demo vs Commercial
    8) Reviews of 7) and good online sites for downloading / reading
    9) Good sources for news (a la avantgo service and creating custom channels for irish content)
    10) Bugs / Patches / Upgrades
    11) Technical & Community support
    12) Buyers guides (from real users / people who have tried the devices)

    etc etc etc

New boards are driven by demand, and I can't see enough traffic for that at the moment. Perhaps there will be demand later, but wouldn't it be better to start with a single forum? Keeping people on topic is really the responsibility of the poster - with intuitive subjects - and the moderators.

    Fair point.

As long as there is somewhere to discuss this stuff as a starting point that would be grand:)

I know I've spent hours downloading tonnes of freeware for my pocketpc and learned by a standard trial by fire approach, so perhaps others can benefit from the experience.

What's the new board to be called then? And where does a avid mobile enthusiast find it?
