I thought Kerrang! was meant to be a rock magazine/TV channel.

Why the f*ck do they play avril lavigne, that heaven is a halfpipe song (you know the one), eminem, etc. etc. on their TV channel?

It seems to me that they include these other genres just to attract a wider audience (rap and pop fans) which i think is a pile of bollox.

Their magazine isn't much to write home about either.

What do you guys think of Kerrang!?

Can't comment on how it is now as the last copy I bought was in summer 1991! It featured Posion on the cover and that was enough to make me realise I was getting too old for the big K.

Yeah... and at least you could laugh at Poison.

I havent bought it in years either I only really buy Terrorizer, Metal Maniacs and I'd buy Metal Hammer if there was something decent in it like Pantera, Slayer etc.. I have both of the Metalworks issues too. But they seem to have stopped producing them. The second issue was really good.

    I only buy Terrorizer.

Kerrang is something you'd read in the shop.

Its the same reason that they cancelled Headbangers ball.

Kerrang! is only after money anyways...

"I was teh sk80r boi, she said "OMG YOER TEH SEX" and i was too good enough for her"!

Ah now.. Headbangers ball was good enough.
The presenters hadn't a clue sometimes (Calling Kerry King -Kevin, etc.)
But they had good bands/artists on it.

Kerrang is a kids magazine. It used to be good even up to about 5/6 years ago. Metal Hammer and Rock Sound are much better if you're into that kind of music. Terrorizer is good too if you're into 'proper' metal.

Or get some USA imported mags from Tower records on Wicklow St.

If you have sky digital, check out Music Choice's hard rock stream, it's pretty good and they don't play the same 5 songs over and over...what you have to remember with kerrang is that they rely on the kids to call in and request songs. The kids obviously don't have wide and varied music tastes heheheh

about kerrang, yeah its only a mag you read in the shops or buy it if theres an article you really want to see or a special issue.

as for the T.V channel and why they put on eminem (crap) and others, Supergrass comes to mind.

    Kerrang is pish!!!!
Magazine = Everything gets 5k's!! What's with that??
T.V = Crap like eminem gets on and N.E.RD!!!! WHAT THE **** IS N.E.R.D!!???? I hate them!!

Kerrang! play rap because it's related to nu-metal. And kids who are into nu-metal also listen to rap because they think it's inspirational.

I have a couple of old Kerrang! magazines here....one with Slayer on the front (1994), Pantera and the peppers (1996) and one with suru satana (1995 I think). Very good back then.

well they really have sold out. the only good things to have come out of kerrang recently are the cds and they have decreased in quality over the last while.

I bought that a couple of issues back, my first one. God what a shock, all those bands I thought were dead and buried still flogging the product years after I last heard of them (ie Kerrang summer 1991). I was slightly depressed by it all, I mean who cares that Def Leppard are still going or that theres a new CD from Poison on the way?. Even a retro-rocker like me does'nt want to see ageing
guys still wearing studs and spandex. Its just embarassing.

    Mike.

Kerrang! is really and truly awful. It seems to just breed these tiny nu-metal kids, who annoy the hell out of me. Another thing that annoys me is their utter dislike of Oasis, who are much better and heavier than some of the rubbish they play, Stereophonics practically jump to mind. They might as well just come out and play pop, they have gotten so commercialised.

In fact, none of the "You-Select" music channels are any good. The only half decent channels are MTV2 and VH1 Classic at night.

big deal if oasis are 'heavier' they never said they only play 'heavy' bands. oasis arent even heavy anyway!

i see u are still annoyed about the mobile jeff?

they never said they only play 'heavy' bands

I never said that Kerrang! only played heavy music, it is just one of the great many things that annoys me about Kerrang!!
    oasis arent even heavy anyway!

Oasis, while not an exclusively heavy group (they have several excellent acoustic songs), have some fairly heavy stuff, eg "Morning Glory", "Full On", "D'You Know What I Mean".

i would consider very few or none of their songs heavy

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 235 ✭✭domeara01

if you want heavy go to cannible corpse. that will show you.
or check out deicide. this is heavy.
    download from here.
    http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/shared/downloads/Deicide/StandingInTheFlames_Deicide.mp3

    right click. save target as.

    For one:
if you want heavy go to cannible corpse
That has absolutely NOTHING to do with what we were talking about.

    For two:
i would consider very few or none of their songs heavy
You cannot consider anything until you have heard those three songs, and if u still feel the same, u may have your opinion, but not until then.
