I got Esat DSL connected on Monday. The line share option. On Friday, dial tone disappears. Esat says call Eircom. Eircom says "wha?" Anyone else have bad stuff happen to your dial tone and how long till it got fixed?

Did they install splitters on all the other sockets in your house?

No it's a separate line going only into my home office - it only has the one socket.

I can see Esat's point that the voice is Eircom's responsibility, although seeing as this happened shortly after DSL was installed kind of makes it sound like Esat might have something to do with it. Although the data portion of the line is working fine. The biddy at Eircom repair didn't want to believe me that I disconnected everything from the line when she asked so as to do a line test - because even with phone and data cable unplugged the line tested "engaged".

Impossible to know where the fault is, but you need to get someone out to eliminate some of the possibilities otherwise you are just going to be bounced from one to the other.

The possibility that it is a fault in the splitter could be eliminated by getting the Esat technician to replace it. Just a starting point, though.

    Thanks for your thoughts guys.

Eircom seem to have sorted it in the exchange. (after a weekend with no dial tone....)
