    Lads & ladies

I have a query maybe u could advise?

I have a diploma in IT with 6 years exp.

Now the ass has fallen out of the IT sector and I was thinking of changing career.

If I was to get into teaching either primary or secondary what are my options.

    Thanks in advance

look into sub-teaching at sec level.

You'll need to buy a wheelbarrow for the cash though.

Ok I'm no expert on the eduction system, but to get into secondary school teaching properly you need to do the 1 year Higher Diploma in education "The H. Dip" as it is commonly referred to. You need to have a good primary degree already. You specialise in 2 chosen areas and do work experience during your year. There's a general application form and you give your preferred locations to study the dip (eg UCD and TCD etc).

However it is often possible to get part time work especially in areas like I.T and woodwork without having the h. dip. But to make a career of it you really need to get a qualification if you want to progress.

Look at http://www.educationposts.com/ for current job listings and also the asti web site.

As for primary school teaching; again it is possible to do substitute teaching without a proper qualification but the main way to get in is via the 3 year degree or 18 month conversion course (for degree graduates, pretty tough to get into).
