funny, i heard the same rumour today........

well not funny actually, pretty damn scary really.

in that situation what i'd do is get there MAD early, get a wristband, get as far away from the stage as possible (punchestown thingy is pretty big, remembering from ozzfest)
get pissed (if you have enough money for **** expensive hieniken or what ever theyre forced to serve) then head back in for a great place up the front when metallica come on :p

    CHHEEE-RIST

Let me get this straight ......

you're gonna all go and pay 40 odd euro to see a band you can't stand and then probably kicked senseless by the rest of the crowd? And for what exactly?

Who's the anally retentive sad-ass now? Please remind me cause I seem to be lacking memory today ......

Incidentally, I should just remind all of you about an incident a mate of mine witnessed at Donington (I think it was) a few years back. Metallica were headlining. Some random punter decided to throw a bottle at james, and it hit the side of his guitar. The 20/30 metallica fans surrounding the stupid prat kicked lumps out of him.

    Just thought I'd mention that.

Do we need an excuse to kick the **** out of you lemming? :)

I'm bringing my bottle-edge sharpener to the consert. I bet everyone will boo them off. Or bottle them off. But the little 11 year olds will be having a great time with their mammy.

    Heart breaking news.

well personally i like the tast of oranges.
but i suppose its a personal taste issue.
However Metallica sound more like the venetian blind type.

hehehe ... you may try if you want bubbles. Of course I may not be particularly accommodating ... and my hands might accidentally "slip" in your general direction at speed ;)

But seriously though, this really gets on my nerves. The "They sold out mannn" brigade.

They've sold out what exactly? if a band churns out the same-old same-old constantly because they know it'll make money ... THAT'S selling out. Metallica have tried to push the envelope and instead of being given recognition for actually TRYING sh*t, they get lambasted for it. Remember now boys and girls, only a few years ago the metal scene was stagnating BADLY and with one foot in the grave because few bands would try anything new.

What pisses me off even more is that this topic comes out again and again and again, and it's the same old moaners at it.

You want to go and spend several hours feeling f*cking miserable at a concert you don't want to be at. Fine, you're call and I'll not stop any of you from wasting your own time and money on something you'll not enjoy

tbh you dont -have- to go and see them, stop whining like little bitches, you're supposed to be metallers.

metallica have gone to the dogs.

    nuff said

Sorry there Lemming, but I dont think anyone is thinking of throwing a bottle at Metallica. And personally, I'd probably pay the money to see a band that I do like.

But you're completely missing the point of the thread.
    That being Linkin Park supporting.

I went to pre-order tickets a while back but nobody was taking orders since the venue hadn't been confirmed.

Until the venue is confirmed (has it been?), they wont release a date of sale for the tickets

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭Kurdt

nah, they still havent confirmed a venue or a ticket price... all it says is dublin, ireland - venue tbc

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 389 ✭✭Morello

Cheers, let's hope it won't sell in 20 mins when announced.... well they'll get a big venue probably

They sold out... I dunno why you are even defending them Lemming. I believe when they started off as a band they said they "would never create a music video". What happened then? They created a music video five years down the line. They have been in commercials in the USA too (so I've heard anyway). They've sued Napster and many other companies.

Yes, they have tried to change their direction which was a mistake because their record sales has gone down alot as a result. But you must remember there are other ways of changing your musical direction. For example Philip Anselmo from Pantera, he has experamented the right way by forming side projects such as Down and Superjoint Ritual. I don't think Pantera would ever get away with what Down are playing at the moment without an uproar from their fans.

And by the way, you said that the metal scene was dying since no bands would try anything new? It doesn't look like Pantera has lost many fans and they haven't changed much from what they were doing since Cowboys From Hell came out have they? Now they are one of the biggest metal bands in the US and the world in general.

I'd say if every Pantera fan-boy was as ardent as you, nobody would care if they burped the theme from Rawhide for 2 minutes, slapped it on a CD and threw it out as an album.

    But on that note...
How on earth can you say that Pantera are NOT sellouts!?!?!

They were once the best Glam-Rock band next to Twisted Sister:

    pantera2.jpg

But then they completely sold out with 'Cowboys From Hell'...

*cough cough* ... Five years .... god forbid that ANYONE should ever be allowed change their mind about something ... I know I have. Have you?

They've sued Napster and many other companies.

AHh .. one of my fav. lines. The RIAA used them and many other bands like zombie pawns and told them selective "facts and statistics" to urge them on. I agree that Metallica could have handled that better, but so could many other bands and artists who added their voice to it. And to be honest, they had a point in that they had no say in how their music was being distributed. They (metallica) asked Napster to just put in a filter that would stop people searching for their songs, and Napster told them to f*ck off. So napster isn't the angel you think it was.

Pornapster ... you're missing the point of what music actually is. It is supposed to be about self-expression. Hence there is no "right or wrong" way of doing music. Only different. I do draw the distinction between musicians and the likes of the performing monkeys like the boy/girl bands because they are not trying to express anything other than "Please give me money". So you'd rather that they concerned themsevles with appeasing you and going against what they FELT to be a path to take for writing THEIR music ???? You're missing the boat on that one.

forming side projects such as Down and Superjoint Ritual. I don't think Pantera would ever get away with what Down are playing at the moment without an uproar from their fans.

So what you're saying is .....

Don't mess with the status quo? That you can go do something else, but don't rock the boat/gift-horse ??

Again, see my above point about what music actually is supposed to be about.

And by the way, you said that the metal scene was dying since no bands would try anything new? It doesn't look like Pantera has lost many fans and they haven't changed much from what they were doing since Cowboys From Hell came out have they? I meant a few years ago. It was considered a taboo in the music industry. Granted, a few high-profile drug-related deaths didn't help either. But it was very much in deep sh*t at one point.

That wasn't my point AngelWhore. I said that Pantera haven't lost many fans in the period where metal was "dying". Which was the point that Lemming made about Metallica having to change because there was no interest from the fans anymore. Pantera changed from Glam into Metal when Glam was popular. So how in the hell can that be called selling out? Selling out is changing from one genre to another in search of money and fans. Pantera, I'd say changed over because Phil didn't want to be seen as a pussy boy after they released Power Metal.
