Drinkin Beer Till metallica come on will that be possable?
I thought sinse the Motorhead xtreme gig that there was not going to be any drink on sale at any rock/metal concerts at the rds, after the trouble they had???

Lemming, you are not counting the fact that the ticket will cost alot. Especially when you are going to the concert just to see one band. Imagine it €80 just to see Metallica. Plus the money spent on beer to keep ourselves occupied when the crap bands are on the stage. I'd say that could amount to a very high sum of money just to see one band. Don't you think?

let me know if any of u agree.ross halfin said it best when he said "they became everything they laughed at.also they've sold themselves out playing with those s**t "rap/metal" groups.and all thanks to that slime ball bob rock well f**k him ill stay true to the true meaning of metal and ill remain loyal to the real pioneers of metal the big 3 was big 4: megadeth and slayer the only two bands that remain loyal to their fans therefore ill remain loyal to them by hateing what metallica have become.writing pop rock, sad very sad

basically metallica suck d**k megadeth will always be the better band their sheer intensity cant be matched.and as for metallica 7 years for an album that is a disgrace.but metallica were a good band but not anymore

Pornapster, pornapster, pornapster my lad ......

you're forgetting one little item. THe amusement to be had having a nice, ice cold frosty beer whilst watching all the little baby goths try to get served and told to f*ck off, then beggin gyou to get them beer, appearing to contemplate it (giving them a false sense of hope) and then saying "no" abruptly :D

Hours of entertainment in that alone!

There was a start to this thread? I've been in alternate-time-flow bubble the last while where time moves in mysterious ways ... hmmm, that sounds suspiciously like a line from a U2 song ... I must go meditate on this ;)

entertainment.ie has now got confirmation that support will be

Linkin Park, Mudvayne and The Deftones

Tickets for 80 - well no price has been confirmed yet, but if it is that high, ol' ph3n0m will just head towards RDS, no ticket in hand, and drink on the street, while listening to the concert, nuff said :)

Linkin Park... i was hoping it would not be so.......

there has to be something we (the general metallica fans who hate linkin park or any of their support bands) can do to change the support, a big protest at wherever those mcd ****heads have their satanic lair? anything?

    RDS ARENA, DUBLIN
    AUGUST 20TH 2003

On Aug 20th 2003 the birth of a new festival takes place in Ireland which will
    begin the first
year of it's life as a one-day event at the RDS Showgrounds in Dublin - and will
    grow in the
next few years to become a 2-3 day, 5 stage, with camping festival at the
    stunning Stradbally
Hall estate in Stradbally, Co. Laois.

This festival will twin itself with the world renowned Reading Festival in
    London (and Leeds
Festival). And will grow to become Reading Ireland.

"Metal isn't dead" states James Hetfield, "it's just been resting in the
    Sanitarium!" And
it'll be let loose this August when the rock legends Metallica and nu metal
    superstars Linkin
Park co-headline a gig at The RDS Arena on August 20th. These two super groups
    will be head to
head and tearing up the decibel levels at this quaint Dublin 4 venue after
    touring America
together under the 'Second Summer Sanitarium Tour' (with Limp Bizkit).

Tickets go on sale March 1st at 9.00am

    Ok a few small things.
1.I dont think Metallica have "sold out"They have moved on just like for example The Chilli Peppers.Personally I cant stand either of the Chillis last 2 albums but at one stage they would have been my favourite band. With regards to Metallica Ive hated everything since Justice even The Black Album. And yes I did go to see the last Gig over here mainly because they played a lot of their older stuff along with the newer stuff which I didnt like.I still got pissed and have to say that it was one of the best gigs ever. But they`ll never top the gig in the top hat in Dun Laoire in 1988(Me thinks it was 1988).The opinion that a band has "sold out" is just that a personal opinion.

2.As for LinkinPark etc.I personally cant stand any of them but Ill still go and get so hammered that I couldnt really care what Im listening to,plus the alcohol deadens the pain in the pit!!!!!!

3.Obviously it all depends on the price of the gig.Im personally not paying €80+ to subsidise this Nu-Metal crap when all I reallly want to see is Metallica. As well as the fact that all the 15 year olds` parents will probably buy up all the tickets on their Credit Cards.Leaving all the "real" Metallica fans to probably pay well over the odds for a ticket and/or queue up in the cold for their tickets.
Hopefully the gig will be good and since I havent heard anything from their upcoming album lets hope they go back to their roots and stop trying to appeal to the younger generation which IMO their last few albums have been aimed at.
    Richie

Well as I said, most of us don't like paying €60 to see one band get it? We would like to see one or two more quality bands supporting Metallica for that kind of money. In Flames would be one of my choices for the support spots.

Linkin Park supporting Metallica???? Tell me no, somebody, PLEASE!!!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 551 ✭✭✭funktastic

Metallica are incredibly overrated anyway.Drummer is **** ,crap heavy lead sounding tuning and inappropriate fills and taking Napster to court ,****ing whingy millionaire bastards. They'll release any old wuss-rock,all that crap with the symphony orchestra, deep purple tried that years ago

'I wonder what my songs sound like with an orchestra' ie 'I've taken a ****load of coke today and I'm ****ing great.'
Linkin Park supporting? well it kinda fits nicely one inferior,sell-out band, probably never even had any principles, supporting another.
Spend the money on cd-r's any copy all metallica stuff and mail it to the bitches.

    funktastic. SHUT UP YA FOOL!

    Exactly!

People are entitled to their opinions...but Funktastic, you just happened to be completely wrong.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 697 ✭✭✭The Reaper

HONESTLY some people havnt a clue what their talkin about!!!
i dont know why they even bother sayin anything. people like little child funktastic. Childish! if you dont like the band fine i dont care its ur opinion i respect that but when you go on about it and start sayin wrong things you just start reckin my head!

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,980 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

The reaper: Funktastic has a point.
Metallica have turned into spolit little babies.

Fair enough, you like them, and I think that some of the older stuff is good, but you can track their decline through the ages by simply listening to the albums.

But please, don't have little whiney outbursts just because someone disagreed. I'm sure funktastic knows what he is talking about :/

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,148 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

    Settle children.

In response to Funktastic's little outbursts, let me ask you this .....

Do you have ANY idea how difficult it is to get rock/metal music working with classical music?

Do you have ANY idea of the skill required to write music that fits like that?

Have you ever tried to play Rock/metal music with a classical instrument?

I do. I've been playing classical music since I was 5. I'm 24 tomorrow (25th Feb). I've been reading classical music notation since I was 5 and writing it since I was 7. It is F*CK difficult to write (decent) classical music for classical instruments much less incorporate an ENTIRELY different class of music sound in there too, so I shall lift my hat off to both the band and the orchestra for what was a superb piece of technical craft, as I will to any other band (metal or not - just that metal happens to be exceptionally difficult to do) that attempts it and makes it work.

As for the napster thing, as I've said before ............ metallica originally asked napster to put a filter in so people couldn't search for their songs, since they hadn't given permission for their songs to be shared. Napster told them to f*ck off, and thus brought much of the problem on by themselves. It takes two to tango, so consider that before you go putting Napster on a podium of righteousness

Bar that, you're entitled to your opinion.
