I read in the Sunday World that it was a concert for "all ages". I don't know if they meant that or if it was only a figure of speech though.

OkI had my 'little outburst' but if you can't see through Metallica it's a bit pathetic.

''metallica originally asked napster to put a filter in so people couldn't search for their songs, since they hadn't given permission for their songs to be shared. Napster told them to f*ck off, and thus brought much of the problem on by themselves. It takes two to tango, so consider that before you go putting Napster on a podium of righteousness ''

For a band that have sold so many records this is stupid greedy behaviour.Napster and file sharing turned people onto loads of different types of music.Other huge bands like Radiohead actually endorse file sharing.Do fans of Metallica not feel embarrassed about this at all? It probably got people who never heard of Metallica before into them but the band were to dumb to realise this.I heard even hardcore Metallica fans say that they could release music backing to phone book listings and it would still sell millions.

With an orchestra,Deep purple did it first and better 30 years previously.Anyway I don't want to go on about a rant against Metallica but i can't believe that fans don't see them as a band of greedy ****ers.

'People are entitled to their opinions...but Funktastic, you just happened to be completely wrong.' I love that comment,an opinion is an individual point of view with no right or wrong answer in preferences to music.
Yeah ok Metallica are a 'legendary band',they may as well stop before they turn into the rolling stones.THey're the metal equivalent of Oasis ,reliving a good album 15 years ago.
Anyway keeps the flames rollin' in

Usually means no age-limit, but I had heard it was u-16s accompanied by an over-25...

If some complete stranger decided to walk into your house and borrow your cd collection would you let them?

It's THEIR music. Yes I think the RIAA used them and a lot of other artists and fed them "selective truths" about the effects of online music distribution. But the fact is that it was their choice as to how they wanted their music distributed whether I agree or disagree with how they went about dealing with it.

With an orchestra,Deep purple did it first and better 30 years previously.

Did they play the exact same songs? No? Then it wasn't better. It was different. Spot the difference.

As for first or second, that doesn't matter with music. It's if you can actually pull the feat off. And as I spelt out before it is not easy to mix such musical styles.

Well, you are actually on a rant. A second one in fact. The guys all nearing 40 at this stage. Are you gonna feed their kids for free? The music industry is greedy full stop. Look at how much you're paying for a CD. Then stop and think about how much of that actually goes to the artist and not some suit in an office with a clip-on ponytail.

Then you might want to remember your own words then, shouldn't you?

    Funktastic,

Get over the napster thing will you. In internet terms, Napster died ages ago. Besides Kazaa (lite) is far better than Napster ever was.

I recently heard a theory that P2P sharing actually increases album sales...people download a song they hear on the radio...like it...and buy the album. Maybe Metallica didn't hear about this.

I personally can understand why Metallica were anti file sharing. If I had spent a large proportion of my life writing songs..id want people to pay for them!

Metallica are so successful that I believe its no longer about money for them. It's good to have obviously..but its not their prime motivating factor for doing gigs. If you were ever at a Metallica concert you would see that they really enjoy them selves. They love the reaction from the crowd...seeing and hearing fans singing their lyrics!

Why the hell do you keep coming back to a thread with the title "Metallica" when you obviously hate them. It defies logic.

I think Metallica lost it from the black (or snake or whatever) album onwards... prior to that (the hilarious debut notwisthstanding) they were pretty good...

The whole napster thing I found really really stupid and the worst PR they could possibly give themselves. Greedy fools. It's like complaining about people making tapes for chrissakes...

Lars Ulrich - what a ponce... little rich kid tennis player... James kinda rocks alright, but since he started singing rather than growling I think he kinda lost it...

I'd be fearful of the rolling stones analogy too. Metallica have become parodies of themselves already... Cliff Burton is the lucky one - at least he still has his integrity...

Still, take a listen to Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning and And Justice for all. They are still phenomonal...
