I've decided it's time someone put up another (this time nearly impossible) music quiz. Hence, who and what the following:

"Well, he gave her dimestore watch
And a ring made from a spoon"

    "My head is shaved,
    My head is wired,
Like the moth that tried to enter the bright light"

    "God loves his children"

"You sneezed and I had to say it over
    'I said I love you' I said"

"Put the crazies on the street,
Give them guns and feed them meat"

    "Yesterday was Tuesday,
    Maybe Thursday you can sleep"

    "So blow your nose, Baby"

"Diary entry 9th of May '62
    We've had some ugly babies,
but none were quite like you"

"So tear me open, but beware"

"He'd enjoyed the thought of killing her before"

    "I think I'm a banana tree"

    "I swear I didn't know that .45 was loaded"

    "You love someone,
    There will be grief"

"Then you fall so far from grace,
You wouldn't know a kiss if it was on your face"

"I say he should watch his ass, my friend
    Don't listen to the crowd"

    "Jesus was an architect,
Previous to his career as a prophet"

"I'm a sexual innuendo in this burnt out paradise"

    And that's it...

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

(I expect Cillian to get most, Ian to get a lot and the rest of you to get a few).

Yeah the person I was supposed to be going somewhere with isn't here yet so I have time for this. The results are, in order:

    Tom Waits "Mule Variations"

The Honeydogs "Moth", maybe? If so you've got the words wrong.

    Bluegrass "God Loves his Children"

    Bloodflowers "There is no if..."

Blur "Strange News From Another Star"

    Guns 'n' Roses "My Michelle"

The Divine Comedy "Pop Singer's Fear of the Summer Pollen Count"

Beautiful South, not sure of the song, don't like most of theirs, its called "The Books" or somefink.

    Metallica "Until It Sleeps"

Beautiful South again (unnnggghhhh) "Woman In The Wall"

Queen (yay) "I'm Going Slightly Mad"

    Aerosmith (again, yay) "Hangman Jury"

Type O Negative "Everyone I Love Is Dead"

    Aerosmith "Ain't That A *****"

    David Bowie "Jump They Say"

    Ministry "Jesus Built My Hotrod"

    Guns 'n' Roses "Rocket Queen"

Hahahahahahahahaha. And its partially your own fault that I got this, Eoin, I wouldn't have had a clue about the Beautiful South songs if you hadn't made me listen to that awful CD.

    Close, but no cigar!

Tom Waits doesn't have a song called Mule Variations...

The second and third are wrong (well the third MIGHT be, but it's not what I'm thinking of...)

There's no band called Bloodflowers, but the songs name is right...

Beautiful South is right, but "The Books" isn't...

(If only I hadn't given you that CD with the mp3s)

And yes, I DID rip you off... but you rip me off more, so I have a right to just this once.

Hello everyone else, please join in before Ian and myself end up using this as an alternative to private emails...

Sorry, Paranoid Android is correct. The Beautiful South song is actually "My Book". OK, I got the second and third wrong (maybe), but lets see if anyone else gets them eh??

OK people, try these ones - (if any of you know my musical tastes it may prove useful for some of these). Some are easy, others are deliberately obscure and fragmented.

'Put pepper in my coffee, i forgot to bark... on command'

'When i feel heavy metal' (easy but fragged)

'Raised on a diet of broken biscuits' (a little obscure)

'It was 20 years ago today' (V famous + easy)

'The waters spray, the waters roll'

'Im the root of all thats evil yeah, but you can call me cookie'

'Open mind for a different view' (EASY!)

'She hasnt been to bed in a week
She'll be dead soon, then she'll sleep'

    Along the same lines -
'Listen as hope and peace try to rhyme'

'And if i stayed too long, id probably break down and cry' (Easy, if ive got it right, havent heard it in years)

'Rock! La la la la la'

    'Yeah i am the dog
    Hound of hell you cry
    Devil on your back
    I can never die'

    'Im going down now'

'Fist in the air in the land of hypocrisy'
    (Those last 3 are related)

'I guess there is no one to blame
    We're leaving ground
Will things ever be the same again?'

'You hurt yourself, you hurt your lover,
    Then you discover,
What you thought was freedom is just greed'

'Im a professional cynic but my hearts not in it'

'I dont care if it hurts' (Point and laugh at anyone who doesnt get this one)

'Mind the empty bottle with the holes along the bottom'

    'Goodbye im going home'

Thatll do for the moment. Just adding my tuppence worth. All of you musical geniuses will no doubt get them all inside 10 seconds and laugh at me for not being able to think of more complex lyrics on the spot... They were mostly mainstream or popular at one time or other.

    14. Rage Against The Machine, methinks.
    15. "The Final Countdown" by Europe

Just this once I have to back up Ian... I forgot to say earlier, but he was right 'bout the misquote... It's "And if I stare too long". You said "Stay". Sorry. I love that song.

    Thanks.

I feel like such an idiot. As a big Blur and Beatles fan I feel I should've gotten those (especially since I played "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" earlier). Everybody jeer me. Please. Its the only way I'll learn.

Hmmm... I'm bored, there's nobody online.
    Let's play Guess The Lyrics!

    1.
    "You're out of luck,
Singing funeral songs to the studs"

    2.
    "There was a boogie singer,
Playing in a rock and roll band"

    3.
    "What's that Hawaiian noise?
He's playin' on the bongos like a chimpanzee"

    4.
"You know I think of you,
    Your picture on the wall"

    5.
    "Je t'adore, ich liebe dich"

    6.
    "It's 4:30 am on a Tuesday"

    7.
    "Don't cross the road,
    You're under its spell"

    8.
    "I'm not feeling alright today
    I'm not feeling that great"

    9.
    "She'll make you breakfast
    She'll make you toast"

    10.
    "If you're seeing things,
    Running through your head"

    11.
"We live in a wheel where everyone steals,
And when we rise it's like Strawberry Fields"

    12.
"There were funky Chinamen from funky Chinatown"

    13.
"I ain't goin' out like no punk b1tch"

    14.
"What is it that makes me just a little bit crazy?"

    15.
"Cover us in chocolate, sell us to the neighbours"

    16.
"Leave me alone, it's nothing serious
I'll do it myself, it's got nothing to do with you"

    17.
"Well, I gotta make it go away
Well, I gotta make it disappear"

    18.
"I lost my girl and I lost my fun"

    19.
    "Jesus and his lawyer,
    Are coming back"

    20.
"All the crackheads, the critics, the cynics,
And all my heroes in the methadone clinics"

OK, looking at them, some of those are *quite* obscure but they're all gettable and they're all from my mp3 playlist. Oh, and no two of them are the same group.

I feel I should flaunt my [superior] musical knowledge but to be honest I've spent the past three or so hours arguing with an evil GamesMaster and really couldn't be arsed, see yous all in the morning then when I might actually give a damn.

I'll rack my brains over the new quiz (Yes, brainS) shortly, as I can recognise quite a few, just need to place them.

To give the answers to my original quiz...

    1. Tom Waits (Hold On)
    2. Nick Cave (Mercy Seat)
    4. The Cure (There Is No If...)

I've been asked by Sven not to post the answers to his quizzes in the future... so I'll do the polite thing and agree. Except the REALLY hard ones.

    k Marty,

they sound familiar, but also difficult. If i had superior musical knowledge (or 'musication', a kick ass word which i did not come up with) i would flaunt it, but since i dont, ill use the really lame excuse that i dont have time.

I also dont have your mp3 playlist.

Afraid not, Jess. IT's much more wellknown than that. A few of them are, they're just not the kind of songs you'd expect.

dammit.actually it was my brothers suggestion.you gonna give any hints bout any of the songs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

    Hmmm...hints?
They're mostly 70s/80s classics or 90s alternative. One of them is the theme from something. (Others might be, but they're normal songs too. This is definitely a theme.) 12 and 13 are played at almost every CTYI disco.
