From reading posts on other sitesi beleive that there are re-activation signals sent out for BBC FTV cards that previously been authourised but left for a while and become inactive - anyone confirm this?? - i have'nt used my BBC card in a while and yet again it's displaying 'call ... to upgrade your sub..' - i'm weary of callin the BBC again to reactivate - will it reactivate itself then if left in the digibox for a while??

    Hi Barry,

I had a similar problem to you.
    I bought a Sky Digibox on ebay.co.uk.

When I received it none of the channels worked ....I got the message "Call the number 0870...".

So I figured that I needed to organise for someone in the UK (The person I bought it from was very helpful) to order a FTV card for the box.

Whilst I was waiting for the card (it took about 10 days for me to receive the new card and get it authorised) I did a forced upgrade on the box (plug in the box whilst holding the backup button on the box pressed in).

All the bbc Channels and C4/C5 BBC Choice/BBC Knowledge came backup on the old card....so it does look like the signals were resent out.

Judging from the version of EPG software on the Amstrad DRX100 box when i received it (2.6b.10*) and the version after i did a forced upgrade of the software (2.7bb.5*) I would say that the box had not connected to the satellite for at least 3 months.

So the only explanation is that SKY send out signals on a regular basis to all valid cards and that the box itself will not allow you to view FTV channels if the card has expired......

(BTW this makes the system almost impossible to hack - not that I would want to!!!!)

    Cheers David
Just another quick question !!! - u say that the old card reactivated and you then received a new card and had it authorised in the box - do both cards work okay in the digibox and did you have any hassle from the BBC authorising the second card??? - i've got a N.Irish FTV card (as well as my Sky card) but was thinking of getting a scottish FTV for the Footie!!!???

    Hi Barry,

So far (since last Thursday) both cards work okay.....but both of my cards are for BBC England.
you might get away with getting another BBC FTV card from scotland but it
would be safer to get a second digibox and then authorise a BBC Scotland card for that.
(you would also need a dual LNB)

I didn't authorise the BBC card myself, the person I bought the digibox from did it for me...

What football can you watch with a BBC Scotland card that you can't with a BBC england card?
