when i was younger i used to try and write out lyrics from songs by listening to them and it was funny the things i used to ocme up with...

Yeah Drowner, so did I. And some of the results caused me no little embarassment. I remember New Order - Blue Monday:

"I see a ship in a harbour, I can and shall obey"

    I had this down as

"I see a ship in a harbour, icon and shallow bay"

and thought this was very profound - the ship being some sort of icon, the harbour being the shallow bay. I was quite disappointed with Barney's unimaginative actual lyrics when I found out the right words years later - I felt sure Ian Curtis would have had the same as me.

Speaking of Ian Curtis, his mumbling voice and his cheery chums in Joy Division have cursed me from beyond the grave.

First line of 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' is:
"When routine bites hard and ambitions are low"

    My version?
"When rooting bites hard and I'm bitching our love".

    Transmission:

    Actual:
"Eyes, dark grey lenses frightened of the Sun."

    I heard:
"I stalk relentless frightened of the Sun."

Had me thinking he was singing about the Yorkshire Ripper!

Novelty: (not Ian's Lyrics I know)

    Actual:
"Can't stand on your own in these times
    against all the odds
    You'll just fall behind
    like all the other sods"

    Mine:
"Can't stand on your own in these times
    It's not the arts
    You'll just fall behind
    like all the other spas"

And I'm pretty sure the following line caught EVERYONE out:

    SILVERCHAIR - Learn to hate

"Come and join the mass debate"

[I'm pretty sure you can figure out what those lyrics can be confused with...] ;)

I remember when Zig and Zag were on Ian Dempsey's breakfast show in the early 90's they used to have stuff like this most mornings.

Once they said that in his spare time away from INXS, Michael Hutchence used to sell kites on Grafton St, and He'd stop people and ask them "D'ya wanna buy a kite?" (you're one of my kind)

and Michael Jackson ran behind his concert promoters singing "Come on, put the posters up, don't stop til you get 'em up". (Don't stop til you get enough)

    Pure class. how we laughed.

    Rob

Type O negative.... Black No. 1

    the real words are:
"you can't go out cos your roots are showing"

    i thought
"you can't stay out cos you groove is going"

i should have guessed that it wasn't a Type O kinda thing to say

Next time you hear 'Independant Woman' by Destiny's Child (secretly your favourite band) replace the line 'I bought it' with 'I farted' - it adds a whole new dimension to the song. It works exceptionately well with the video accompanying the new lyric.

    Another ruiner -

    Morning Prayer - Jeff Buckley
Replace the line 'You'll see me as I am' with 'You'll see me as a ham' and you will never hear it properly again.

    Bye

In Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence", I still hear
    "Feelings remain
    Soldiers burping"
    instead of
    "Feelings remain
    So does the pain".

My mum thought "Sowing the Seeds of Love" by Tears for Fears was "Sewing Machines of Love".

2 others courtesy of people I work with:

Real lyric: "Super Trouper beams are gonna blind ya" (Abba)
Heard as "Super Trouper pigs are in a flying chair"

Real lyric "Don't lean on me man 'cause you can't afford the ticket"
Heard as "Don't lean on me man 'cause you can't afford the chicken"

There are websites devoted to this, like http://www.kissthisguy.com/
where I found my all-time favourite
Real lyric "Midnight at the oasis"
Heard as "Midnight after you're wasted"

In Once by Pearl Jam, there is the rather innocent, obvios chorus of

    "Once Upon A Time........."

My best mate actually heard it as

    "Once Oh Party Time"

Quite an accomplishment, if I may say so myself.

Labi Siffre - Something Inside So Strong

To my shame I always thought the opening line to animal nitrate by suede was "Well like he's cum you know by his hand"
as opposed to the actual lyric
"Like his dad you know that he's had"
    :D:D:D

2: It feels good i am not alone in the world of mumbling artists :D
3: Don't know the artists name but here goes:

'You got the key to my castle'
    heard
'you got the key to my arsehole'

Weird you should mention that tune, I always thought the words were 'She's got better days aside.' which actually make more sense than the proper lyrics imho.

i miss heard dEUS song sister due for ages

    Pixies;

    "monkey gone to heaven"

    'this monkeys gone to heaven'

    sorta sounds like:

'this spunk has gone to heaven'

    Muse;

    "bliss"

'give me all the peace an joy in your mind'

    sounds surprisingly like:

'give me all the peace and joy in your ma'

    both brimming full of inuendo!:D
