drivers for everything, service pack 3, IE6 and all the windowsupdates. Dx8.1 or 9.0.

list of registry tweaks for the os.
    rivatuner.
mouse acceleration fix for clean and easy gaming, as disabling it in windows only disables it in windows leaving you with a rough feeling when playing fps such as cs etc.
    list of services to disable.
list of any other os related stuff you wish to turn off such as hd counters (diskperf -n at dos prompt) and WFP and anything else that hogs resources.
    msconfig for 2k.
any benchmark programs and other programs you want to install, office etc.

and run the install from there - this way it won't ask you for the CD later on...

There are loads of essential progs - see the threads on fav apps.
    I like treesize/powerarchiver6.1

You need zonealarm/antivirus/adaware - and about a zillion other apps whose sole function is to protect windows from internet nasties,

PS. SP4 is out - but don't be a guinea pig,..

video codecs would be handy. nimo | sld

as said, acrobat reader is always handy.

AVG, for all your antivirus needs...

    Win2k SP4

    winzip

be sure to backup all of your backgrounds and screensavers, to
get your desktop back to normal asap. also backup your
favourites. any programs really that you've downloaded and
found useful, they could be a pain in the ass to find again...

Calman, afaik, it came out last june/july? SP4 came out the other
    day, 26th methinks.

otherwise you MUST uninstall it after 30 days.

there are many free unzippers out there - my personal favorite is power archiver 6.1 (later versions are not free)
Also the creator of pkzip died penniless in a hotel room after "the suits" got their fingers in the pot....

Pkunzip is still free as far as I am aware..

also have a look at www.pdf995.com - it is ad ware - free to use 'cos it opens up adds - other than that it is an excellent PDF printer.

and eh.. you can't use XP with a valid license - eg Pro to use Pro and you can only use OEM on the PC it was bought with.
