My two did not have the four in one as there is epilsy in the family so they did not get the hooping cough vacine.

When our youngest was getting her first set she had a menigites
shot , it is a vary hard thing to do then they are that small.
Having ot hold them steady while they are injected is heart breaking esp when they are too young to know what is going on and it can be hard to sooth them.

Was just looking at his schedule and he has to go for the 5 in 1 three times, WTF is that about, is bad enough he has to get it once without having to do it to him a couple of more times...

My niece got the MMR injection (she turned 5 2/3 weeks ago) and got her booster injection 2 weeks ago, and she actually reacted to the booster injection and got a very mild version of the measles.

She had a headache and a sore tummy and a little bit of a rash for a couple of days and didnt go to school, but asides from that she didnt have any bother really.

Unfortunately not the same as they are giving kids nowadays Fio. currently is a 5 in 1. all doctors we have spoken to have said that the innoculations do not give a mild version of any of the diseases. Am not sure how it works but that is one of the things they have assured us of.

Your child may develop symptoms of the diseases in the vaccine but will not be infectious (ie will not be able to pass on the bugs to others). The variants used in vaccines are crippled to trigger an immune response, they are not full fledged viruses.

The important thing to remember about the MMR controversy is that the original "whistleblower", Dr Wakefield, was not whistleblowing the dangers of the vaccine, he was highlighting the possibility that some varients of measles may have new behaviours that are not understood yet, namely residing in the gut or triggering autism. Also bear in mind that autism itself is barely understood as a medical phenomenon and, like epilepsy, is very difficult to diagnose accurately.

I would encourage anyone with doubts to seek multiple jabs if they feel uncomfortable about the potential side effects, but certainly do not avoid the jabs - the potential not-yet-understood link between MMR-strain measles and autism, potentially only in those with a familiy suceptibility, is far less of a threat to your child than measles holds.

MD's coverage of the subject in Private Eye is excellent btw.
