Gotta chime in on John Williams - Cavatina. Also agree with Kopf's sentiments that some of the choices are a bit weird. Though I suppose thats no big deal either, its all good music. It could be argued that Cavatina isn't even sad, just more like "contentment".

Don't want to sound like a snob, but William orbits remix of Adagio For Strings, though clever and danceable is not better than the original.

Always found Radiohead - The Tourist a bit sad and slow.

The "Mad World" cover by Gary Jules ranks as my top saddest song evar right now. (From the Donnie Darko soundtrack)

    Smog - The River Guard.

William Orbit's 'remix' of Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings is a contemptable piec of ****e.

Does the person who first mentioned this on here even know it wasn't written by William Orbit?
Annoys me as much as ****ers who think Guns 'n Roses wrote Knockin' on Heaven's Door or (even worse) the people who know they didn't but insist on putting in that "Ay Ay Ay AY AY" bit when they sing it.

SOMEONE MUST PAY FOR THESE ATROCITIES

    Damn - I'm grumpy today.

Nine Inch Nails - The Great Below
Nine Inch Nails - Something I Can Never Have
Placebo - With You I'm Nothing
    REM - Everybody Hurts
    Smashing Pumpkins - To Forgive

Ones which make me very sad indeed. That second NIN trick really makes my gut wrench, both because it's an incredibly sad song in it's own right and because of an event/period that I associate with it.

    my 2c worth:

Who Wants to Live Forever - Queen
These Are the Days of Our Lives - Queen
The Ship Song - Nick Cave
Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles (it is sad, honest)
The Man Who Built America - Horslips (jolly enough melody, depressing lyrics about lost dreams)
Days - The Kirsty MacColl version, but that's probably just me being sentimental :)

    The last song off V.A.S.T.'s debut album. The song is called 'You' and its about the singers mum dying. Jesus, its a heart wrenching song, but I really like it. Helps keep things in perspective. Lyrics are;

    Your dress looks good on
    You my love
    And your house looks like
    It's heaven
    Why are there
So many people outside of it
    Everything you have will be
You can't take anything with you
    Except the love
The love I have for you
Your eyes look like they're from god
And your face looks like it's from god
    Why are you?
    Going to be outside eternity
    Everything we know will be
    [Chorus]
    I know you want to

...but you have to hear the song to do it justice.

Yes, yes I do. The danced-up version hasn't got the same feeling as the original which is far superior, which is why i posted it!

it generate's a "one use" card number for your transaction
and it can't be used again

i'm sure that amazon offer full protection for hacking of its db's too

Apologies Okie - I didn't see you'd mentioned it first in the thread. Someone else mentioned the William Orbit version later and that was the post I was referring to.

    Doh!

It's OK Jeff, I get annoyed at the same thing myself. Like when people are wondering "Who is the new and exciting dance band that do the music for the beginning of Top Of The Pops?" When it's really only some baxstard that has messed around with Led Zep's "Whole Lotta Love"

    Meanwhile....back at the point.

Sad song --> Smashing Pumpkins - Farewell and Goodnight

I reckon almost any of the old radiohead stuff is sad .
    But heres my opinion:
    Portishead-Glorybox
    Radiohead-The Bends
REM-Everybody Hurts -Mention Earlier By some1
Air -Playground Love --->that 1's obviously gonna b sad considerin it was on the Virgin Suicides Album!

    The theme from Schindlers List
The Execution/final credits (tracks 17 & 18) on the Braveheart soundtrack.

Not that I am into Meatloaf, but Objects in the rear view mirror is quite sad as is Kate Bushes Wuthering Heights. Poison, Every Rose has it's thorn, Chicago, well most of their stuff, perhaps look away specifically. Queensryche, Bridge (or something).

    etc....

George Michael - I cant make you love me.
? - Wind beneath my wings.
? - Green fields of France.
Simon & Garfunkel - Bright Eyes.
The Verve - The drugs dont work.

There was a series on telly years ago called Lonesome Dove and there was a tune in it that was really sad. Havent a clue what the name of the song was.
