    Smashing Pumpkins - 1979

while not an intentionally sad song (hell, it very upbeat for the SP) - when you get past the stage where that song stops reflecting your life you know it's all downhill from here on in...

I don't think that's sad at all, I think it's uplifting. It's saying that if you're upset or hurting it's ok cos everybody hurts sometimes but hold on and it'll all be ok. I don't see how thats sad.

18 Wheels and a dozen roses

Yes it is supposed to be a happy song, someone going off to spend the rest of his life with the woman he loves - but since it is C&W each time I hear it I'm waiting for the truck to crash or yer man to arrive home after the missus has been killed by a freak accident.

"We have both kinds of music here , Country AND Western"

...try downloading a track called "Forget Her" (left off the Grace album at the last minute apparently). Now that's a sad song...

    Also,

Red House Painters - Down Thru / Summer Dress/ +most of their
    stuff really. Beautiful and subtle

    Whiskeytown - Under Your Breath

Cash's version of Hurt (I like the d/ward Spiral version too)

    - and despite myself, cos I don't even like the song, but I love the idea behind the lyrics, " The Show must go On" by Queen. BUt seeing as there have been some absolutely sh!te songs listed I'm entitled to one too:D

    Cheers
    Neil
