Sad is how I would describe that song as well :( . Janis was a sorta Tracy Chapman before her time.

For really gutwrenching sadness there was only one Hank Williams as in "I'm so lonesome I could cry" and there is only the one Nick Cave. The Mercy Seat is his best song.

Showing my age now but it has to be the classic Honey from Bobby Golborough,
My No 1 Sad song in every meaning of the word.

The Old Man written by phil coulter performed by The Fureys is very sad too.

    Placebo - My Sweet Prince

    or

"Seasons In The Sun" - the happy yet sad vibe is extremely depressing in the original. Westlife's take is just skin-crawlingly bad.

Definitely Hurt by Johnny Cash. My late father was a big Cash fan, and it just reminds me of him, and it's also made me appreciate my dad's music whereas before I always just slagged it off.

    My Weakness - Moby
    Pyramid Song - Radiohead
October - U2 (as well as the others like One, With Or Without You, etc.)
A lot of Sigur Ros's stuff.
Adagio For Strings - Orbit's version

Placebo - My Sweet Prince, Ask for Answers/Without You I'm Nothing, Holocaust
A Perfect Circle - Orestes, Judith (although that's more angry than sad)
Garbage - You Look So Fine, Cup of Coffee
Sarah McLachlan - Do What You Have to Do, Angel (although this has recently had the arse worn out of it)
    Alanis Morissette - Mary Jane
    Incubus - Mexico
    Evanescence/Amy Lee (? mp3 nametag is fecked) - Hello
Tori Amos - Winter, Me & A Gun
Tool - Pu**** (live version) is pretty sad/emotional I suppose.

And yes, I know I'm practicing thread necromancy, no need to remind me. ;)
