Alot of you might disagree but I think Paul Scholes should be up there. He's pure class!

Actually, Scholes was the first name that sprang to mind...

Most of us are going to pick players post 1980, cos lets face it few if any of us remember players before that time...

3 is far too few, cos' I'd start with Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa, and work my way from there, but Zidane has to be one (best player I have ever had the priviledge to watch, and I include Maradona in that). After that I really do find it hard, cos' ones mans idea of an attacking midfielder is not necessarily another's...include wingers for instance, or do they have to be central?

    I suppose...
    1. Zidane
    2. Maradona
    3. Ardiles

Just a quick question for Lennoxchips do you mean attacking midfielders or support strikers? Not trying to be picky but I would class both Stoichtkov and Litmanen as strikers but not centre forward lads. Anyways.

    Best Attacking midfielders evAr:

Zidane, Maradona, Garrincha. (in no particular order)

Best half-strikers (thats what the dutch call it):

    Bergkamp, Cruyff, Stoitchov.

Ah c'mon yop. You have to give the guy some credit. He done well for Lazio. He's been alright for us this season too. Before he moved to United he was recognised as the best attacking midfielder in the world.

The amount of people suggesting scholes as one of the best Attacking midfielders of ALL TIME is shocking.

Pires would be a better bet than him and thats just in one league at this particular moment in time.

Tell you what, why not throw in Darren Anderton or Andy Sinton while you're at it...

I disagree. I think Scholes is better. But if your just going by that one game on saturday your right, if you are talking about his overall career and this season I think Scholes is a better bet. Give me a reason why he shouldn't be if you think otherwise.

Your really going to have to lose those glasses at some stage :P

    GP|G|As|SoT|SC

    16 8 2 13 17 Pires.
    23 8 3 19 5 Scholes.

I dont have the information to hand but id bet that its a similar story if not more so for last year. Lets not forget he was favorite for Player of the Year before the injury.

    What does SC stand for?

Anyway, I'm surprised no one mentioned David Platt? He regularily banged in 20 goals per season during his peak and scored 28 in 62 for England.

Also wasn't Bobby Charlton a midfielder? 49 international goals.
