Standalone Database

I'm currently using Mckoi database in my Java application. It's a standalone embedded database, i.e I don't need a database server, all I need to do is link in the library. I'm currently looking for an alternative to this. (problems with running it on HP-UX) can anyone tell me of similar databases applications? thanks
