Is there any way one can get win* to boot / install
    on a software RAID0?

Slightly older P300 with 2 identical scsci drives
so buying a RAID controller isnt worth it.

MS and all the other info says no you cant boot
off a software raid, which is a bit pants.

    Can this be done?? ;)

how would your machine know that it has been setup as a raid 0 array if the software telling it so, has not yet been loaded?

The only way to do that is to have software running before or at boot time (i.e. firmware). That kind of setup requires a raid controller.

OK, how about a virtual raid controller that would
    load off the boot partition?

ok, what you want is just your data volume raided?

    for example
    disk 0 part 0: 5 GB
    disk 0 part 1: 20GB
    disk 1 part 0: 20GB

    only disk 0 part 1 and disk1 part 0 raid-ed?
why? there would be no significant speed increase as the OS which needs most of the disk i/o time is still not in a raid configuration, plus a problem in any of the two raid 0 volume parts would render ALL data lost.

buy a highpoint raidcontroller, they are not expensive, and they have 4 ide chanels on en, that's 8 ide devices....more than you can shake a stick at!

I should have said Boot Sector where your os loader lives..
So when the OS loader kicks off it creates a fake HW raid controller
    for windows to boot off..

But thinking about it, i now believe that i am talking cake..

if your just runniing 2k or xp, why not just upgrade all the disks to dynamic and use software raid from your OS?

its hardly worth the trouble otherwise
