Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So another win as we march on in the elite european competition.
Juve for a team that were missing a group of stars still played well. Had plenty of world starts to cause us bother.

Fine header from Wes and a world class finish from Rudd. Wonderful pass from Beckham and a sublime finish frim the big man.

Keane was quite again and O'shea - can we say anymore about this guy!

So it looks like we are going to make the QF once again. Definatlely one of Europes most consistent teams over the last decade.

Yea good match to watch, united didnt play too well and Keane was very quiet by his standards,i taught O Shea really lifted the team when he came on,hopefully he'll start in the return fixture, united will need to up a gear to get a result in turin.

Good game, uplifting result for United. What more can ya ask for? Beckham... pure magic!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,164 ✭✭✭Space Coyote

John O'Shea is going to be unreal. The lad oozes pure class. All night Ruud was being fed rubbish balls throat-high to control. Young John comes on and immediately pings a few passes down the line for Van.
Jebus I wish O'SAhea played for the Pool.
How about a straight swap for Jamie C. lads ???

    ;)

BTW Did Alex mention the 'peno' after the game? Couldn't believe the ref on that one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,240 ✭✭✭hussey

Space coyote : You pretty much summed it up for me

ruud was being feed crap all night
Utd looked totally different with O'Shea,

I think the ref got it right(ish) with the peno

he played advantage, and utd missed

Which United are we talking about ?There are hundreds of them :)
O Shea is gonna be a great player,he can play anywhere in defence ,id say hed be a good midfielder too as hes great ball control, pace and a decent passer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Utd were damn lucky to have caught Juve cold for the first goal, otherwise it would have been a different game.
The Italians were much better except for the final ball, O'Shea was so much better at opening up attacks for Van
Dutchfella Fergie may wonder why he did'nt start the game with him.

Oh yes, did anyone see the piece written in I think the Irish Mirror which layed into Beckham and suggsted Fergie should have sold him on for 30 mill. I wonder what he wrote in todays paper?!

ah yea, UTD beat a team minus almost a full first team due to injury/flu and it's a great win.

UTD loose cos o injuries and it's the same crap about only beating them cos they were missing players.

Utd were by no means great.
Based on the Tue/Wed games, Ajax would hammer Utd.

No way . . . even though Scholes had an open goal (albeit from an angle) there's no advantage over a Van nistleroy peno !!

And the keeper should've been sent off (even if he plays advantage !)

I dont think he was ever going to send him off

if he was going to send off the keeper he would have done so after the incident .. how many times have we seen play go on, then ref go back to book a player??

if we would have freezed framed that second and asked me what would I rather have

    1 - penalty
2 - play go on with scholes with open goal

    I'd pick 2
    and so probably would fergie

There were still nine internationals in that team, and it was pretty much Juvé's first choice midfield with David Trezzerguet up front. So only their defence was weakened, and they were missing there first choice keeper. United played the first half of this season under those circumstances. Beating any team with nine internationals managed by Marcello Lippi is a great win in my books!

Check again who was playing, how many internationals did they have out?

What a moronic statement again. So just because palace knocked ye out of the cup and we hammered ye at the kip then palace would draw with United! FFS

And Ireland drew with Germany in the world cup which means we should have been in the world cup final,

Actually no, what happens in that situation is that if advantage is played (and is only done so when there is a 90 % chance of scoring) and the player scores, its a goal (have to check what happens to keeper, but pretty sure he gets sent off either way), if he misses, Penalty is still given and Keeper is sent off.

Its in the rule book, somewhere :)

Does EVERY fcking thread on this board have to become a United vs Liverpool flamewar?

It looks to me like he was saying that based on the performances of the two teams.
There were still nine internationals in that team
Kevin Kilbane is an international, that doesn't mean squat.
and it was pretty much Juvé's first choice midfield with David Trezzerguet up front.
So... less than half their first team ?

Why dont u ppl support a decent team, a team of potential Newcastle You ppl av 2 admit within the next 3 years newcastle will win the title. What much do Utd av comin through? Newcastle av Dyer, Bellamy, Lua Lua, Ameobi, Jenas and so on

    thank you kaids.
based on performances in the Tue/Wed night matches is exactly what i meant.
Check again who was playing, how many internationals did they have out

internationals mean jack ****. How many of those play week in week out for Juve?

Since it is like talking to the wall and once again the thread has gone totally off subject then it seems the really point is that SOME scouse supporters are more interested in picking holes in how United play than discussing the subject.

But I suppose the only interest that scouse will have in the CL is United.

So point is we beat Juve in the CL regardless of wheather or not they had a full team out or not. We will more than likely make the QF and after Tuesday nite arsenal are now in doubt of making it.

Kaimera - We will send you a postcard from the CL ;)

You mean somebody might actually disagree with you on how United played? Heaven forbid!

The thread is still very much on topic, despite your weak efforts to drag it off topic into yet another flamewar.

And I hate to break it to you yop, but you don't play for Man Utd, so I don't think you'll be sending any postcards. Unless you go along to one of the matches with the thousands of other fans.

There are two Man U fans who regularly post here and always try to turn things into a Man U V Liverpool slanging match ,which rapidly turns into a pathetic name calling insult fest.
Quite frankly i for one am sick of it.
I enjoy visiting this board to share my passion for footie .
There are lots of guys who are fans of various teams [including Manu, let it be said] here who post regularly also and are 100% respectfull to others.
The two i talk about who shall remain un-named are downright dis-respectfull .
I introduced two friends of mine to this Forum and both were subjected to insults from these guys simply because they added to a topic and didnt praise Man U,with one of them being told he was a scouse scumbag ,only thing is he is a Leeds fan.

Lets get this straight right away, before these two attack me ,no im not an ABU,infact recently in posts ive praised them and some of their players[credit where its due and all that]
I have nothing against who a footie fan follows but i feel this utter lack of respect and downright ignorance should not be tolerated and would not be in a certain Forum which i moderate over.

Well that's going a bit far now, as I recall you were 7th choice in college and ya don't wear the same size as Ronaldo for that matter :)

Performances is all there are to go on and judging by Unites performance yesterday they will have a tought task against Ajax, in fact they would have had trouble against Boh's playing like they did on Saturday. Uniteds superstars were given a lesson in football and barthez was the only one who kept them in it. Okocha is something else too, hope he goes on playing for Bolton there have been whispers of him making a move to one of the bigger clubs....

Hmmm... I wonder who they are...

I'm not too pleased with the way United are playing at the moment. I think Fergie needs to drop a few players to the bench and give the others a chance. Giggs, Van Nistelrooy, Silvestre and Keane don't look to be on form at all. Solskjaer is very quiet nowadays too compared to when he was playing on the right when Becks was out. I'd say Phil Neville should be in, in place for Giggs, Forlan for Van Nistelrooy, Super Sheasy for Silvestre and Veron (once he's fit) in for Keane. Try it out for a game or two and see what happens.

He has done it before and it has worked on the majority of occasions. I'd like to see it happen anyway.

The only reason you made the first eleven is because there were only 30 in the college the year you played and you guessed it 19 of them were girls. Once some footballers joined the college you made your exit pretty sharpish, well as sharpish as ya could anyway...

Did I say Ajax oh well was unintentional was just on an Arsenal thread. Playing like they did yesterday they couldn't make it past anybody really, Porn is right he will have to go back to a team that gives a sh|t and the guys who went out yesterday didn't.

Well if you want to include yourself as a girl, then I am sure we will find that all the lads in CRTC at the time will agree with you.

BTW - If I get a chance I will find the winners medals that we won when beat tallaght, will scan it in and send you a copy ;)
don't want to be leavin you out.

If you read the post you will see that I said you were 7th choice. Now seventh choice of eleven means you were on the team (simple maths) and there were four after you. Ya get it yet. There was no attack there, you took it wrong, probably that inherent stupidity we were on about, and went off on a rant.

Of course they are. Sure don't recent performances suggest that. With UTD on top and Arsenil in second 5pts behind it's surely a matter of fact.

    Or maybe I'm wrong?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,476 ✭✭✭Samba

I think both teams are equally as good when both playing at their best.

The question is, will United start playing to the form which they were at the time of the win against Arsenal. This all depends on Ferguson and his choice of team, he had a proven formula and he did away with it for the original team in which he placed his faith, so far they have not been the convincing side which Man United usually are imo.

Alot of Arsenal fans are very forgetful of what happend at Old Trafford in the previous match.

Arsenal were played off the pitch and out classed, in the EXACT same manner in which United were in the F.A Cup match.

Different teams, different managers and different styles of Football, you cannot draw a clear cut line between who is better and who is worse, perhaps based on current form yes, but not on overall potential.

For example, perhaps we should base this on European Performance? (I am not saying we should but it would make for an interesting point of discussion)

Starting to see what im getting at?

Now can we please leave out the silly little Playground remarks...... and instead make a VALID POINT as to WHY you possibly think one team is better than the other.

The Soccer board is honestly starting to look like the bloody CS board over a year ago.
