Every 2mins 5 secs I get the following error in my event viewer (RASPPPOE connecting into Eircom DSL - Win 2000)

    Source: RMSPPPOE

    Type: Error
    Event ID: 64

Received a PPPoE Session packet with an incorrect payload length; possibly fragmented. Ignoring this packet.

    Data:
    0000: 00 00 3c 00 01 00 92 00 ..<...’.
    0008: 00 00 00 00 40 00 ff c0 ....@..À
    0010: 3c 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 <.......

Every 125 seconds, Eircom is sending everyone what seems to be an invalid packet - a 50 byte ethernet frame, but with a 50 byte PPPoE payload length, which is just plain impossible. A 50 byte ethernet frame, less 12 bytes of MAC source/dest, less 8 bytes of PPPoE header leaves you with an absolute maximum PPPoE payload of 30 bytes.

I've captured these things - they're IGMP packets sent out every 125 seconds, which is reasonable enough, and the IP headers say the payload should indeed be 30 bytes.

I don't know what that hex data is you're getting from RASPPPoE, makes no sense to me. Too many zeros, too much missing stuff - no Eircom-like IP address, no IP protocol number 0x0021.
