Basing my answer on the amount of time that I played one game over the years, I'd have to say Quake II

    Lotus 2 Turbo Challenge

    The theme tune rocked.

Alot of those old tunes should be revived and a nice remix done with them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 696 ✭✭✭Kevok

    Zelda: LTTP
    Zelda: OOT
    Eternal Darkness
    FF VII
    Shadowrun

    But to name a few.

Finally got my grubby little hands on Ikaruga for my Dreamcast.
Loving it. It's well up there.
And Ico, for being about the only game of the past few years to wholly absorb me. Every spare chance I got, I was playing Ico.

Historically, looking back, I'd say Monkey Island 1, and Excitebike 2 (with track designer!) were the two games that kept me most entertained during my formative years.

Zelda IV on the SNES is my favourite game of all time.

Alot of people saying Zelda 64.. pah!

Mortal Kombat II on the SNES has to be a close second!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,007 ✭✭✭Moriarty

    Deus Ex

Followed by (in no particular order): Operation Flashpoint, The Settlers 2 and Neverwinter Nights.

    <edit: Ooops, and monkey island 1/2. >

    Super Mario Brothers 3
    Monkey Island
    Street Fighter II
    Faxanadu
    Elite
    Rogue
    Doom II

Just some games that I remember having a lot of fun playing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,872 ✭✭✭segadreamcast

Games that I had the most fun with (therefore were the "best" in my opinion)

    Metal Gear Solid
    Street Fighter II
    Soul Calibur
Sonic 2/3 (the memories... eight of us crowded around sonic 3 doing 1-on-1 games.)
Mario 3 (other memories... me and my dad playing Mario 3 into the wee hours.)
and finally the most recent would be Halo (I'll be mobbed for saying that, but it's always a GREAT excuse to bring seven mates around and call out for Domino's :). I think most of you who play Halo know what I mean...)

    GoldenEye

the graphics - really smooth movement and deaths, even with 10 badguys on screen
the sound - songs where fast, menacing and bond, i have all the music on mp3 now
the weapons - dual magnums made enemys fly 10 feet backwards
the multiplayer - as much fun as snes mario kart mixed with cs

Hmmm, this is a tough one. Probly these in no particular order

    FFVII(Most engrosing RPG ever)

Dungeon Keeper (Impus natum :) , Class game, you get to be evil)

Starcraft (Cant believe no one mentioned it yet, Very cool in its day, and still so)

Imperium Galactica 1 (Great until it got to the stage where everything was reserched and you just built unstoppable fleets, Still one of me favourites, cant wait for IG III)

    Caesar 2 (Plebs are needed)

Homeworld (looked stunning and had salvage corvettes :) )

Baldurs Gate/Shadows of amn series (Played all these through using the same character, got very attached :) )

I could go on for ages, but those are probly my all time favourites

Strider - arcade version was great, megadrive version was almost perfect, and the PC engine version (bet no ones played that) had a kind of fmv type thing going on .... best version.

Final fight - double dragon but fun :)

Tekken 3/tag - most fun you can have watching fighting without the addition of jelly and naked ladies.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,434 ✭✭✭batman_oh

dopewars and acid tetris are 2 of my favourite freeware games ever, it's just a shame that dopewars has teamed up with gator recently:(

has got to be FF7 only just nudging out FFX because of it's superior bad-guy in the form of seiphiroth

to quote myself from a former thread about the best bad guy in a game

"Has got to be seiphiroth .
    why????? you ask
1.makes the main charecter go insane and become unusable
2.torches your main characters hometown which contributes to no.1
3.kills the love interest in the game.
4.and finaly he also decides to destroy the world.
although I must admit hitler in wolfenstein 3D would be a close second."

Hmm this is almost too hard, anyways in no particular order:

Championship Manager 00-01: probably the game I've put most hours into, almost disconcertingly enjoyable especially when you first get into it.

Day of Defeat: Favourite ever multiplayer game.

Grim Fandango: most wonderful storyline I've ever had the pleasure to interact with - would make an amazing film.

    Zelda 1 (NES): Genius.

    Zelda (SNES): Genius.

Zelda 64: A work of art.

Super Mario Kart (SNES): Was still playing multiplayer games of it in a dingy attic room in college 10 years after it was released.

Civilisation 3: Fully patched it's brilliant.

Soul Calibur (DC): Best fighting game ever, especially when your flatmate is crap at it.

Starcraft: Favourite RTS ever, the different races and the storyline are very involving, though I never really enjoyed mutliplayer.

NBA 2K1 (DC): Unquestionably the best sports sim franchise ever. Single player was phenomenal and multiplayer seamless and natural, the commentary inparticular was lightyears ahead of anything and still is. Even if you ****ing hate basketball (as I did) it really is a big daddy of a game. "Killer facial Rod!"

half-life had to buy a Righteous grafics card just to play the thing.

Unreal Tournament - Unmatched even by its sequel. The most challenging, frustrating, annoying and rewarding game Ive ever played.

Road Rash 2/GTA Series - Lot of scope for silly fun, GTA 3 is the game one and two were trying to be tho a little bit let down by the consoley approach which made some missons too easy or unrealistic:| - Ill always love RR2 for when i kicked Natasha out in front of an oncoming truck - I still chuckle:)

Total War series - Only game to make you actually feel like your commanding a Samurai/ Feudal army rather than harvesting "energy" to build units to tank rush - the diplomacy/non battlefield side of things could do with some innovation but still good.

Baldurs Gate Series - Great story

Arx Fatalis - Great atmosphere, Morrowind as well - but it seems a bit more disjointed given the way so many cultures fit into the gameworld:|

Thief 2 - Incredible atmosphere, brilliant tension, very rewarding when you pull off the "impossible". Undisputed king of sneak em ups. Other games have tried to incorporate elements of it but have never succeeded in surpassing it - Hitman 2 makes its own bold strides from the original idea, but is let down by some terrible levels.
