Saw it last night. Was disappointed. The dialog wasn't bad and the french accents are always cool. Good characters and Neil Jordan did well but it was slow and the ending wasn't very believeable.

I feel asleep a few times during it too. :o

I was wrecked after getting an avergae of 3 hrs sleep a night all week. But if it was exciting I would have stayed awake. My friend never noticed I was asleep anyway.

I'd like to see the orig french version.

    I liked it alot (and I wasn't tired!) :)

Nolte is very gruff (believable as an alcoholic junkie gambler!). Like Yellum, I wasn't mad about the ending. It was building up nicely for a huge heist at the end, but
it all kind of fell apart at the end. I enjoyed Bob's winning streak (which was fun), the botched robbery was a let down, and the stupid twist with yer man and the two irish guys was a bit silly
. Another thing that bugged me was the sudden freeze frames at the end of each scene (it added an urgency to a movie that didn't need it, and took away from it as a result).

I still recommend it, though. Enjoyable movie.

    - Dave.

You should expand your spoiler a bit.

I didn't like it, and if you like 'heist' films, you won't like this one :
It's billed as a heist thriller and no heist actually happens. We get all the ancipation of the planning phase and very little actual action. There was no excitement from the break in to the vault, and no tension at the Casino because the police left. Nolte's gambling was the real high point of the film, but he played it too relaxed for it to be enjoyable. Ultimately pointless.

have to say i enjoyed it didnt even know there was an original version, i noticed the freeze frame thing also but didn't know it was intentional, i though the relationship between roger and bob was interesting and nick nolte was good in it.

i think neil jordan has to be one of the worst directors around atm. he basicly tries to copy the hollywood style, but to give it his own twist [ ], and it just comes off very, VERY badly.

then again i havent actually seen the good theif, but judging from his recent "masterpieces" [micheal collins, the crying game], i think ill give it a miss:rolleyes:
