In case it had passed unnoticed, Comreg published a paper some time back which contained some interesting musings on Wireless Boradband delivery. They are awaiting with bated breath to see whet the public/industry have to say about it........remember that the USO consultation submissions are also being assessed at present. Any designation will last between 2 and 5 years, depending on the deal Comreg custs with the carriers over the next few months.

Firstly there will be a Fixed Wireless Access licence auction in the 3.5Ghz band. This will be held later this summer after they confiscate the spectrum back from Chorus........any day now y'all:D

The idea of designating the 2 Mobile operators as being responsible for Wireless Data provisioning over a significant chunk of the state is still a live one up in Comregville, remind yourself of the Consultation Document again. They could have to use some of the 900Mhz band it seems in rural areas where Comreg believe that there is a surplus of bandwidth.........the 1EV-DO stuff mentioned in the document.

If you have any ideas about all of this then you should respond to the points raised in the Consultation through the feedback form so Click Here on or by NEXT monday 10/03 and tell them what your think.

Don't let Irish commercial organisations offer you wireless.

Build your own wireless network like the guys at irishwan

    or for those in Dublin

    http://www.dublinwan.org

This way no-one gets to rip you off

One problem with this theory: where does one get one's Internet access from? In my case, I need a hybrid: one fast-ass wireless connection to the 'net as well as a wireless WAN to share it with my neighbours.

There are many valid reasons to go with a commerical WISP. Its very very unfair to suggest that if someone doesn't go with one of the groups in the IrishWan umbrella group that they'll be ripped off.
