Broadband grinding to a halt - this may be answer...

    For those lucky enough to have ADSL or other asymmetric broadband service (e.g. cable/wireless), there is an explanation of why you may be experiencing drops in download speed when uploading (e.g. if using a p2p application):

    The solution may be to implement a linux router with this prioritisation included, use a linux client, wait from Microsoft to put it into Windows or hardware router vendors to revise firmware.

    I have personally seen this slowdown and the explanation seems logical - hopefully it'll help the lucky ones, at some stage...
