    Hi folks,

Got some new memory for my PC. Installed it, booted up, everything looked OK (new memory was recognised, etc.)

Logged onto the net. Loaded IE - went to boards, IE crashed ("This program has performed an illegal operation...."). Loaded my email program. Started downloading mails, same error.

    Any ideas??

    - Dave.

    Interesting...

What brand and size memory is it?
Have you tried the memory on its own?
If you are mixing sticks, try reversing the order of the sticks in the DIMM slots.

In the BIOS, have you tried slowing down memory times (Safe, Normal etc)?

Try running the memory at 3:4 for a speed of DDR266 and then try 3:5 for DDR333.

You could try a memory diagnostic utility such as memtest86.

It will check to see if your new memory has any problems when in use.

    Hi Matt,

The RAM is 256mb of Samsung PC2700 (to go with the 256mb already there).

It was late last night when I installed it, so I didn't spend much time troubleshooting.

I just wanted to know if anyone came across this before....

Changed the speed to 3:4 and its fine now. Funny thing is that the new memory stick didn't work on its own.

    Thanks for the suggestions, folks...

    - Dave.
