Hopefully it is still on BBC as tbh having to listen to either Network 2 or TV3 commentators is truely horrific.

1-1 at half time Great start be Celtic early on but Liverpool have come back into it well.

On another note hopefully Jim Beglin will get struck by lightning or loose his voice.....

God the commentating on Network 2 was absolutely brutal.

Well 1-1 full time result and tbh a very good performance by Liverpool, we were able to take hold of the ball well it's just a shame we did not do anything with it. It is perfectly balanced for the return leg im sure it will be a cracker.

On another note having just seen the replay of Diouf spitting at the crowd I am absoleutly fuming. Even if there were a few things said one is meant to be a professional. It was absoleutly disgusting what he did and he will no doubht recieve a ban which will be just for what he did. I know one is meant to defend their team but im annoyed with him for what he did there. So needless he was playing excellent as well.

Ah well bring on next week :0

Ronan|Raven did you even see the incident??? Diouf was punched by one of the typical Celtic scum fans and if he gets any kind of a ban from FIFA i'll lose any faith I ever had in them. The match was rubbish too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,147 ✭✭✭Ronan|Raven

I saw Diouf falling into the crowd getting the usual attention a player gets when it happens then saw Diouf spitting at the crowd JoeSoap. If a fan did punch him then so be it he may have had *some* reason to spit at them but tbh he has done himself and the team no favours.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

First off, a draw perfectly decent but you just know the Reds could and should have killed this tie tonight.

Second Diouf played well but the spit was silly - he'll get a ban I'd say.

Third Daragh (?) Moloney I think he should have said at the end -
"bet you're glad the beeb have the return leg" He's cronic, wheres Jimmy McGee, oh he's retired I think. Pity.

    Finally, G'Wan Heskey! :D

    Mike.

i watched the 1st half on RTÉ and the 2nd on Channel 5. they have the most biased commentators i have ever heard. it was like a trial run of Liverpool FC Television

Diouf is a dirty bastard and needs to be treated like one. it looked like someone in the crowd rubbed his head. i'll look at it again tonight but it doesn't excuse spitting at someone. it is disgusting

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,164 ✭✭✭Space Coyote

watched it down the local...diouf is a friggin idiot for spittin at the fans...although if any of us were in the same situation we'd probly react the same way, not necessarily by spitting. thommo will give him a bollicking, so he'll learn his leason hopefully.

we made celtic look very ordinary...is that a compliment to the reds...i'm not sure...

First off great performance from the whole team. They really played well after getting off to such an uncertain start. Heskey took his goal well also. Traore did okay in the heart of defence also. Nice to know he can play properly soemwhere and that we have cover in that area.

Then there's the Diouf incident. Very unprofessional if you ask me. He should have controlled it better. All this crap about the Celtic supproter rubbing his head is just that crap. Because he and his mate were arrested after the game. He slapped him in the face and that's what provoked Doiuf. That's not to say I support his actions, he should have handled it better. the pool are taking internal actions and I'd say he'l get a fine or ban or both.

    and as for the match

    liverpool are a disgrace..

one of the worst teams to watch by a mile... constantly 10 players behind the ball, by far the most boring team ive ever seen. Hope celtic arfin stuff them down in anfield. Total shower of shìte that they are.

Owen also trying to dive at any opportunity he was in the box was also laughable.

Guy couldnt hit a cow in the ass with a banjo never mind the back of the net. Clearly one of the most over rated strikers i have ever seen. Give me henrik larsson any day of the week

Have been saying that for months now. Hopefully Celtic will take them in Anfield. I would not be too complacent if I was a Liverpool fan, Blackburn got a draw in Parkhead and looked a much better team then Celtic, but got played off the pitch in Ewood. As for Diouff, there is only one way to deal woth unruly fans, take a leaf out of Catona's book and Kung Fu kick them out of the stadium. Seriously, i can see alot of trouble come out of that. That is the second such incident in a year involving Liverpool, after Carragher throwing the coin back last year.

then what does that make Celtic :P We are boring yes and very single minded in attack sure it should make it all the easier for such a great team as Celtic to take us apart. Neither team were anything special last night.

I think by ****e he meant that the 'boring boring' title has switched hands from Arsenal to Liverpool :p

It doesnt make for a great game but i guess it gets l'pool through.
I can't see l'pool loosing this tie now unless they really collapse.

Hehe I know :) Id settle at the moment for the return of our playing style while Arsenal were the boring ones and return things to normal :)

I'd really like to see Diouf getting punished big time for what he did last night. Yes, he was more than likely provoked but what he did was just as bad as what Cantona did a few years back. Yes Cantona did kick him, but to spit on someone is nearly worse than what any scumbag would do to you. I'd say 5 game ban at least is what he needs.

He was also alleged to have spat at the West Ham fans at Anfield this season also. Scum.

BigChief, i didnt mean to insult the majority of Celtic fans who are loyal and passionate fans (as I presume you are). The fact is that there will always be a number of them who are just lowlife scum. Take for example the bunch of morons who smashed the windows of the referees house after the incident when Larsson broke his jaw a few weeks back. That was totally unjustified. And again last night, with the Diouf incident, a totally unprovoked attack (although not a very vicious one) on Diouf. Sorry if I offended anyone whom i didnt mean to.

I was in the Portobello in Rathmines watching the match and I had to laugh at the Celtic supporters there - cheering and clapping any time Celtic managed to string three passes together (which was pretty rare).

After the first ten minutes, Liverpool had them by the balls for the rest of the game, bar about a five minute period in the second half - that Liverpool didn't finish them off is their problem.

I fully expect Liverpool to beat them easily at Anfield, and anyone who disagrees is most likely deluding themselves big style.

Personally regarding Diouf I say fair play to him.

Spitting is admittedly the lowest of the low but then again a crowd have no right to manhandle a player and it's the least they deserve in return. Same for Jamie Carragher throwing a coin back into the crowd at Arsenal after it was thrown at him last year. Crowd members think just because they are anonymous and packed in tight that they have the right to abuse players in whatever way they feel fit and remain unaccountable.

It's about time they brought back fencing just to remind the 'herd' where they stand in the grand scheme of things. Abuse of this kind (physical or verbal) is not tolerated in other sports where the crowd are up close against players so why should it be in football?

    In short, nice one Diouf!

After Hillsborough lets hope we never see a return to the days of fences.

There's no way fencing will EVER
return - the fans would'nt stand for it. (no that was'nt a deliberate pun)

Only for the fencing in Eindhoven Thierry Henry would probably be in a coma from violent and racist PSV fans.

Well on the match, Liverpool were better in what must be put down as an abysmal match, pool were all over Celtic and should have pushed up and tried to win the match instead of playin 10 behind the ball, every time they went up field they looked like scoring, may come back to haunt them, though I doubt it.

On Diouf, he is meant to be a pro, plenty of players get buckets of abuse from the crowd, as I utd fan, Beckham took unreal abuse after the world cup and did not react, the 2 guys patted Diouf on the head, he turned around and spat at them. He should not have done it, he is and was stupid, a very petulant player who cannot handle the pressure of the premiership. This is not the first time this has happened with him, he deserves to banned for 3 or 4 matches, fining him 2 weeks wages will not hurt him, not playing should.

BTW - He is right to stand up to them flutes BUT he is a pro and is meant to keep the head

Yes maybe for now Mike. But I'm sure there will come a time some time in the future no doubt, where they will be needed. I can see that you are more worried about the safety aspect of having fences around the ground. But I can't see how there would be much of a problem with having fences as long as the stadiums are all seated.

Well I got that from 3 different soccer web sites. So go complaining to them.

He had the **"invitation offered to him"** by Diouf and he and a freind are to be his VIP guests. He will also receive an apology from Diouf at the hotel he is staying in. It's only right that they do something to make up for it. I'm sure he's not bothered too much about the whole incident now. He's laughing while Diouf is sweating

Pornapster: Thats the way they have it in a lot of stadiums in nl. Apparently its needed tho cos the dutch footie fans can be real animals. No idea if anyone has been hurt/killed cos of it lately.
Will ask around cos im interested in finding out now.
