    Dubs shock Decies

    Waterford 2-11
    Dublin 2-13

A sensational first-half display by Dublin propelled Marty Morris' side to a shock win over host side Waterford at Fraher Park.

Backed by a gale-force wind in the opening half, the Metropolitans had their vaunted opponents on the backfoot for all but a couple of minutes of the first half with messrs. Tomas McGrane with a 1-6 first half tally and Kevin Flynn, weighing in with a 1-1 tally, in particularly devastating form for the visitors up front.

It was the aforementioned McGrane who helped get his side off to a sensational start when he goaled after eight minutes after some sloppy defensive work by the Decies.

Further points by his colleague Flynn and plus a sweet effort by McGrane himself thereafter helped catapult the Leinstermen into a shck 1-7 to 0-1 lead after just 18 minutes.

Then a brillant sideline cut by Carl Meehan was finished to the Waterford net by Liam Ryan to leave the homesters trailing by 0-1 to 2-7 with barely 20 minutes played.

The first half continued to be a one-sided affair with Dave Bennett, with two points (one from play), and Eoin McGrath, the only players getting on the scoresheet for the Munstermen in the opening 35 minutes.

Trailing by 0-3 to 2-12 at the interval, Waterford predictably improved on the restart but it wasn't until the 11th minute that they began to eat into to their opponents' lead.

Four points by Eoin McGrath helped the Decies fightback and reduced Dublin's lead to 2-13 to 0-8 midway through the second half.

Dublin remained on the backfoot as the half progressed and when Dave Bennett blasted home a penalty to make it a 1-11 to 2-13 game, it was all to play for.

Waterford were made to rue the fact that they fired over 15 wides though and when Bennett had a late, late free blocked down, the final whistle blew to the jeers of the home crowd.

PROUD TO BE A DUB !!!!!

    Bring on the cats

    DUBLIN 1-8
    LAOIS 3-14

A three goal second half blitz Laois put the Dubs to the sword in a poor Allianz HL Division 1A clash in front of a meagre crowd of 1,500 at Parnell Park on Sunday afternoon.

The O’Moore County grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck between the 22nd and 24th minutes of the second half when a trio of subs Enda Maher, Michael Dunphy and Fionan O’Sullivan all breached the Dublin defence.

The omens were bad for the home side from the outset as Conal Keaney was not started owing to a persistent calf injury which has dogged him throughout this League.

In the absence of the young Dublin star his team were rudderless and returned to their squanderlust in front of goals after showing great composure in their victory over Waterford in Fraher Field, Dungarvan seven days previous.

The stats tell their own tale. Nine first half wides while Dublin’s only score from play over the 70-plus minutes didn’t arrive until the 28th minute of the second half from sub Johnny McGuirk.

After an error-ridden opening half the Dubs led by 1-5 to 0-6 thanks to the expert free-taking of Tomas McGrane (five frees).

Keaney was sprung from the bench in the 28th minute and quickly made an impact when rifling a 32nd penalty to the roof of the net.

The second half was virtually one-way traffic as Laois began to look more assured and their more powerful hurlers began to take control against a lacklustre Dublin effort.

Strong Laois midfielder James Young fired over two frees for Laois and also returned a poor clearance over the bar to bring the sides level 1-6 to 0-9 with 16 minutes to play.

Then the match-winning purple patch arrived. The Dublin full-back line, which had creaked on several occasions, finally collapsed under an aerial bombardment with Maher whipping to the net to push Laois four points clear - 1-10 to 1-6.

Before Dublin could recover their goalkeeper Ger Ryan was picking the sliotar out of his net twice more within two minutes when Dunphy and O’Sullivan capitalised on confusion in the Dubs’ rearguard as Laois ran out convincing winners
