    [GLOAT]

I've just ordered a Sony Ericsson P800 from Expansys.

£504.08 - no i can't really afford it. i have no money for food for the next six weeks...

From the discussions on Esato the current firmware still feels beta but they update it for free.

oh and a Brando screen protector

the www.sonyericsson.com eshop charge Stg. £4 for shipping to Ireland

but works out the same as mphone.co.uk as they are charging less for the P800

don't believe everyt thing u reaad about the free firmware upgrades. I've had a P800 since beginning of January and have not been able to find anyone here to upgrade the firmware. SonyEricsson in the uk/Ireland refuse to even tell me where I can actually get the firmware upgraded in Ireland as the phone has not been released in Ireland. Its an amazing phone, just keep what I say about upgrading the firmware in mind.

So because the networks aren't offering it, that means it 'hasn't been released yet'?
    Bull$hit...

    Oy..
Still wondering if anyone knows how to insure one of these?
I'm not buying one til i know i wont be down €800 when (it's not really an 'if' anymore in Dublin) some scumbag robs it from me.

the reason that you cant get it flashed in ireland is that there is no sales office here.

what release of s/w do you have?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,617 ✭✭✭talla

but fonex update firmware on T68i here, im stuck on RIB.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,265 ✭✭✭MiCr0

the phone software will only get released to the market after the handset is available there

btw the latest s.w we have is r1d for the phone and r2c for bluetooth

    Few points -

    1. the SE EShop are out of stock - also they have garnered a bit of a bad rep on esato.com (delayed shipping, broken promises etc)

    2. Firmware upgrades - have you tried MPCR - the website is a bit wrinkley (and poorly designed) but they claim to do free firmware updates. (they are the place that all the phone shops send their phones.)

    3. DO NOT BUY FROM MPHONE.co.uk (see following)
    _______________________________________________
    Dear Mr. xxxxxxxxxxx,

Thank you for your order reference xxxxxN200xxxxx.

Unfortunately your card issuer does not provide an address verification
service, which we require before processing an order for payment. From
our experience, we have found that the quickest way to resolve the issue
is to ask the customer to provide the following by fax:

    * A signed authorisation form found at: www.mphone.co.uk/form

    * A light copy of the front and back of the credit card (so that the
card number on the front and signature on the back are clearly legible)

    * A recent (less than three months) statement for the card showing your
name and address (the transactions can be blanked out for privacy).

These will enable us to continue processing the payment without waiting
for a reply from the card issuer.

    Our fax number is: +44 20 7 353 7706

We appreciate that this might make certain people uncomfortable, and so
there are other alternative payment methods. We can accept a cleared
banker draft (Money Order) as well as a Wire transfer (bank / telex
transfer). Either would need to be in UK Pounds.

You could also consider using another card type, such American Express,
which we may be able to process through the banks automated service.
Please call with the alternate card details at the below number or place
another order on-line at the website with the new card details. Please
do not send your card details via email as this is not a secure method.

We are sorry for the inconvenience that this might cause.

If you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to ask.

    Kind Regards

    Jackie Keith

yeh they don't mention it when ordering, but soon you will be getting an email looking for passport or driving license, a picture/photocopy to be faxed over of front and back of credit card, and an autorization form:)

They (expansys) needed that when I bought my 7650.
Wasn't too bothered though, i mean what would you do if someone bought €x00 worth of stuff from you on a dodgy credit card and you shipped it?

Maybe getting a bit off topic here, but mphone are correct. There is no address verification supported by Irish credit card issuers as there isn't a standard addressing system for Ireland.

Also, when I first ordered from Expansys, they requested the exact same. I don't have a problem with it. They are shipping high value goods and can't be sure if they are going to the same address as the cardholders any other way.

they had it on monday - all three have been going in and of stock of the UK version as it only became availble to market over the last 10 days

to be honest anyone who stocked it was coming in for flack on esato :) only because the ship date was pushed forward on several occasions - and there were so many back orders - it was first demonstrated over 12 months ago and there have been a few 'confirmend' ship dates since mid-late '02 from them all

the best place for (sony)ericsson servce here I've found is Sigma Telecom (through their FoneFix service) they even updated my R520m and it was never even releases in Ireland - they put R6A on my T68i in January - still waiting to hear back from them about P800 updates though

you get the same from expansys.com and sonyericsson eshop (run my dataselect in the UK) both require further confirmation from ireland

expansys need a similar fax, but if you have done it once for future purchases when you are shiping to the same address as the card billing address you can tick the 'purchased before' box on the form and they will look up their records rather than having to fax all over again

sonyericsson eshop e-mail you to call them on a 1850 number to confirm card details and address

hope your P800 arrives soon whom ever you get it from in the end - you'll forget all the minor hassles on the way once it's sitting in your hands :)

Tribble, expansys have the exact same policy as MPHONE.
Confimed - they have exactly the same policy.
Had to fax them through my ancient Courier v.everything courtesty of a parallel port scanner, PSP8 and the built in fax app in WIn2K.
Took me an hour and 4 attempts but forced the bastid through in the end.

Upside is that it was shipped at 17:30 today! with a nice TDK blutooth adaptor.mmm

    :)

thanks for the info guys (gals?)

will let you know how i get on

Haven't tried the TDK unit yet - will try when i get home...

ah ok - just wanted to mention there is a new version of the TDK Bluetooth software 1.3.2.19 recently released with a P800 helper (so may not be on the CD Rom boxed with your adapter)

only thing is it is causing some people problems if they had a previous version of the TDK installed (it's stops working on the default / installed profile - reports so far on XP)

might be a good idea to hold off on it for a bit - unless you are installing it on a system with no previous installs as people who tried that didn't seem to have a problem - hopefully TDK have a fix/new version out shortly to solve it

www.tdksys.com has all the FAQs and Downloads for the adapter

ah - well i'll be using it in a win 98 setup as that is my main day-to-day os.

the the win2k and linux boxes run vid processing app's and i don't want anything dirtying them up.

    thanks for the info

    hope it's second edition :)

haven't tried installing the new version it on 98SE so not sure what it does on that - hopefully all will be well if it's a fresh BT install

    yes it's SE

i have it working right now,

old 1.2.2.15 TDK software (on the CD supplied) and PCSuiteForP800_rel_1.3.1_EN (new) from SE

it's a bit buggy - but does work if you force it

eg. try connect (unsucessfully) with TDK s/w but this actually makes a connection that the SE software can use - a reboot sometines fixes the problems - but don't even think about running it through a firewall (yet).
