I'm quite a big fan of the franco prussian war...

Alexander the great's battle of tyre is a classic....

The napoleonic wars though have a certain class about them...

    over to you...

and everything else after. i'd have to agree with raggamuffin re the franco-prussian war, the way bismark orchestrated the whole thing was pure genius ... or evil, seeing as it led to plunging europe (and much of the world) into war for the next 70 odd years. so ... *not* my favourite war, but interesting nonetheless.

other wars i also like: the spanish civil war (but it's a bit sad at the ending, aww), and napolean's conquest of europe was pretty goddamned amazing, which is okay to say bcos he's the hitler it's okay to like (in terms of conquest, in terms of fascistic genocide, stalin is the hitler it's okay to like). WWI was boring.

operation market garden ww2, a bit of a **** up but it was a great plan. great film about it too.
when the celts fought the romans outside rome might have been fun to see( if i had a time machine) long haired dudes running towards the romans screming like little kids

World War 2, up until around Stalingrad and Pearl Harbour was a bit disappointing.
And yeah the Franco-Prussian war was a great masterstroke by Bismarck. A very clever man, and great leader.

I like in "War of The Worlds" the battle between Thunder Child and the fighting machines....

    People:

There were ships of shapes and sizes
    Scatter out along the bay
And I thought I heard her calling
    As the steamer pulled away
The Invaders must have seen them
As across the coast they filed
    Standing firm between them
    There lay Thunder Child

    Moving swiftly through the waters
    Connons blazing as she came
    Brought a might metal War-Lord
Crashing down in sheets of flame
    Sensing victory was nearing
    Thinking fortune must have smiled
    People started cheering
    'Come on Thunder Child'
    'Come on Thunder Child'

Journalist:The Martians released their Black Smoke, but the ship sped on, cutting down one of the tripod figures. Instantly, the others raised their Heat Rays and melted the Thunder Child's valiant heart.

    People:

    Lashing ropes and smashing timbers
Flashing Heat Rays pierced the deck
    Dashing hopes for our deliverance
As we watched the sinking wreck
With the smoke of battle clearing
    Over graves in waves defiled
    Slowly disappearing
    Farewell Thunder Child!
    Slowly disappearing
    Farewell Thunder Child!
    Farewell Thunder Child!
    Farewell Thunder Child!

Journalist: When the smoke had cleared, the little steamer had reached the misty horizon, and Carrie was safe.

But the Thunder Child had vanished forever, taking with her man's last hope of victory.

The leaden sky was lit by green flashes, cylinder following cylinder, and no one and nothing was left now to fight them.

The Earth belong to the Martians.

    Martians: Ulla!

    Yep.... That'd be my favourite!
