I have this a while, it does work, though you can't much choose what you get.

Works on most PCI based Digital Satellite TV cards for PC.

The newsgroup "push" is useful.

I take it you can't download files? Not much point having a 1Mbs connection if all you can do is look at selected websites.

There are also selected file downloads ("push"). usefull utilities, film trailers etc, the sort of stuff on a magasine cover disk.

Also if someone has ADSL and "posts" a binary up to 100M to the SatAtOnce newsgroup, it will be added to the push carosel.

It is a TOTALLY FREE no catch or hook or spyware service.

When it working well, the "Lucy" Newsgroup server is good. About 45 decent newsgroups updated at least 4 or 5 times a day.

You can spend hours "online" to Lucy (no dialup, it in your Casablanca cache really) and then go dialup to post any replies.

There is no point to it if:
You have ADSL
or
2 channel ISDN and someone else pays the bill :-)

If you have a bad analog "out in the sticks" then it allows lots of phonecall free "online" time.

Note that the "Pay" Satellite download services at 20Euro a month one way are not much better.

You'd have to be desparate and well away from phone to use 2 Way Internet by Satellite, it is 600 Euro per month for something much worse than ADSL.

It runs at over 2M for now and they promise faster soon.

Because it is multicast shared push service, in theory as users grow then can add capacity even with only a small advertising on "Tuner".

It is funded as a Research project.

Satellite Services like EON cost money and quickly degrade as users are added.

For actual low cost & decent BW and able to self host email and Web servers you can't beat ADSL for value.

For occasional users a "good" phone line is actually fine.
