Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeh I heard it. It was kinda pathetic to listen to. What was it McCarthey was supposed to have said? Something about Sunderland being at the bottom of the table because they are the worst team. Eamon's responce to this was that that statement McCarthy made was "about himself"...but EVERYTHING Eamon does is about himself. He also brought up the whole Roy Keane issue again - how annyoing.

Once again Eamon has acted like a child, he should put away the handbag and try and analyse instead maybe. Grrrr.

Its clear Dunphy has some personal issue with McCarthy but that doesn't take away from the validity of his statement of McCarthy being a self-promoting PR man who's job of managing teams seems be second on list of priorities behind getting on with the press and making himself look like a football martyr who bravely battles against all the game throws at him.

For a team in Sunderlands situation to have their manager making comments such as 'it's not bad luck or a coincidence we're last in the league' is shocking and if I was one of MmcC players right now I wouldn't be impressed with his views (or appointment) in the slightest.

McCarthy didn't make those comments to help the team, he did it purely to cover himself. If Sunderland get relegated then he can point out that he inheirited the worst team in the league 'so what did people expect?'. If they somehow stay up then he can allude to how he miraculously saved 'the worst team in the league'. Either way he wins.

Pigman 2 thats very true, and I bet he wished he hand'nt jumped at the job so quickly. He could have got Leeds instead, at least they'll almost cetainly aviod the drop.

Well I can see where Dunphy was coming from with his comments. Not that I agree with him having a go at McCarthy publicly though.

I saw an interview with McCarthy last week on ITV Sport and the interviewer asked McCarthy a question and McCarthy replied "Well do you think I deserve the job?!".

I thought to myself "Jesus, McCarthy, you are a fucking wanker." I think that was the point Dunphy was trying to get across last night. But I don't agree with him attacking him every time he's asked to comment on him.

Dunphy is a muppet but ye gotta love the way he goes on sometimes. I was cracking up last night at his McCarthy rant. Poor Bill sitting there, face like a sunburnt beetroot, with his 'okee dokes' not knowing what to say next. Class stuff.
At least he's no Chippy Brady who would probably bore the face off John Major !
    ;)

Dunphy knows what he's talking about - McCarthy is a bluffer and a chancer, as Eamonn might say. What premiership credentials does McCarthy have? None. His acheivements with Ireland were at best modest; with Sunderland he's going to be found out big time. Although it may have been somewhat personal, Dunphy was justified in his criticism, and don't forget from Dunphy's perspective McCarthy is the man who, together with the orgnaisation that employed him, did nothing to prevent Ireland's best player leaving the team before the World Cup started.

Who here thinks that any point Dunphy has ever made isn't valid, never mind the agressiveness of the comment. Who thinks that the point he's made is 100% wrong.

I'd doubt if there is many.

I agree that he does make very valid points, it's just he always comes out the wrong end of it due to the rash and sometimes ignorant delivery of his remarks, but I usually agree with him.

McCarthy is a plonker and I hope his flaws come to the fore at SUnderland. Who knows we may yet see him play Kevin Kilbane up front with Phillips.

Yeah... can you imagine if Liverpool had sacked Houllier in the last month or so, and McCarthy became the new manager. How happy would you be?

I can tell ya, I was going crazy when I heard his name had been mentioned to become successor to Fergie. If he ever comes close to managing United I'll have a heart attack.

I must say I thought Eamo was way over the top. We won, Mick left the Ireland job, let the man have the rest of his career now. There are plenty of worse managers out there then Mick Mc Carthy, and regardless of what happened once we got there He did lead Ireland to qualify out of a tough group. He is not as much a muppet as Dunphy makes him out to be.

You're right Waylander, he's much more of a muppet than Dunphy makes him out to be...

well then smartass, for such a crap manager why does he have the longest unbeaten run in european football 18 games i believe.

Dunphy was quick to say "NO WAY JOSE!!!" in his knacker accent when asked jokingly by Bill if he'd take the Ireland job one night on the premiership. probably even quicker then he was to criticise McCarthy.

Sure that muppet has no respect and still addresses Jack Charlton as the "big baby" in the examiner. what a useless tosser

McCarthys a wanker. His loyalty to Kilbane and Harte cost us a quater final berth at the world cup. Longest unbeaten run? In european football the minnows have only been recently introdced, so I don't know if it's that great an achievement - mostly draws n'est ca pas? And I've two words for how he got that unbeaten run - Roy Keane.

I'll take a personal bet with ANYONE that McCarthy will not get Sunderland promoted next season.

You could equally argue that our record unbeaten run was achieved in an era where more friendlys were played (mainly at home btw) leading to relatively easy results.

So like McCarthy or not I'm afraid you'll have to admit that to achieve an unbeaten stretch that includes 4 games against Holland and Portugal is a good achievement in anyones book
