    They more or less ran out of fuel this morning. They are safe where they have stopped because of their massive and precise armoured firepower but they are now stuck in al-Najaf until the weekend or so. They also lost close air support as the Apache helicopters ran out of fuel as well.

    Meanwhile they cannot send fuel tankers up and down the road to Kuwait because they do not control the road and there is no fuel they can use anywhere between Kuwait and al-Najaf.

    The US forces have adopted an old tactic and have effectively circled the wagons as they wait for the juice.

    Out of fuel or are they simply unwilling to risk going any farther with their current fuel supplies? I heard from one of the reporters travelling with the 3rd infantry that they tended to refuel whenever they reached a 50% tank as they like to have insurance in case they were surprised.
