if u remove the heatsink right, there will be some plasticy gunk on the chip, be careful removing it or u could mess it up. Its pretty messy, thermal paste

    no you see,
The heatsink appears to be glued to the processor!
I can not get the chip off of the heatsink,
am going to take an anglegrinder to it soon :-)

But i have never used one let allone seen one so i wont be doing that ;-P

yea, no that site does not really cover the problem i have,
the heatsink is glued (looks like a white substance)
    to the heat sink,
I presume this is like this in all dimension 4300 machines,
what type thermo paste do dell use!!?
    is it glue?

think it is called a passive heatsink.

try to pry it off with little force in a circular fashion.

That's not really just plain thermal paste. It's a double sided sticker thingy with thermal paste on it found on all official intel p4 heatsinks. The sticker itself is like a thin strip of metal. I've only ripped it off the heatsink before before using some real thermal paste so I am of no real help here except you can probably do it if you're just careful. The sticker is not as strong as superglue, should come off.

If its the hard stuff like glue pop it in a bag and chuck it in the freezer for about half an hour take it out and the heatsink should twist off with a little force.

Thats a classic Dell & Gateway thing to do!

I remember years back I had a 200mhz CPU..Gatway had glued the heat sink to it. When i eventually freed the CPU i discovered it was actually a 166 overclocked :) Nice one Gateway!

I think Dell also used to glue the power cables into the hard drives / cd drives...It was extremely annoying anyway!
