Tony's son, Gavin, confirmed on RTE radio that he was trying to rid Independent Newspapers (and his father) of the hassle that is Chorus.....
It is for sale at the right price....
He stated that ntl had the same financial problems as they had but he forgot to mention that HIS cable service offered its customers r e a l m u l t i c h a n n e l tv meaning a basic (cheapest) package of tv channels mainly in English for the majority of customers but also French, German and Spanish channels in some areas including TV5 for over twelve years in most areas including Malahide, Maynooth and Swords......

Oh yes, a very normal cable tv service for normal Europeans living in Ireland E.U.

In fairness, Chorus only carries TV5 in those areas that it inherited from CMI Cable (oh, and Cork). Most original Chorus areas (ie Irish Multichannel) do not have TV5. Neither does Chorus Digital. Chorus also seems to favour the MMDS platform, which doesn't carry TV5 anywhere AFAIK. No room for it on MMDS given the limited space, but on cable yes, provide TV5 along with 3Sat, RAI, and TVE. That would cover the major European langauges.

Indo have been trying to sell Chorus for the best part of two years now. Nobody wants it. I would say that the likely buyer will probably eventually be NTL/Telewest, if the two merge as seems likely at some point.
