    Crossmolina fined over McDonald socks

Crossmolina have been hit with a EUR550 fine because their star forward Ciaran McDonald played with the wrong coloured socks in the recent All-Ireland club semi-final against Dunshaughlin.

McDonald wore distinctive white socks when, in fact, he should have been wearing maroon socks. It appears that the Mayo star’s decision to wear his socks rolled up to his knees made him an easy target for the GAC.

The fact that McDonald also wore white socks in the All-Ireland final against Nemo Rangers is likely to result in another EUR550 fine winging its way to Crossmolina in a few weeks’ time.

Nope I think its reseasonable. The rules say that all players must be wearing the same type of knics and socks. They weren't they, they got fined.

    Whats the problem?

im sorry i just think its blatant and ridiculous and a way for a few fat cats who are not doing the hard training the masterful Macdonald is, to earn drinking money. he should have got off with a warning, after all it isnt like he wore orange or some irrelevent colour but white, his clubs secondary colour.

Not when it's a feckin amateur game. Where there is no money involved. The GAA are dumb.

Does anyone know why he was wearing white socks?

    Statement maybe.

    "I am an individual!"

He had a great first half at the All-Ireland final, still but, to my mind the socks made him look like a gimp.

His club should be fined €1000 this time round :D ..under the gimpy sock wearing rule…

BTW - isn't this fine thing very common practice i.e. teams being fined for late entrance on the field etc...

Fining a county board that has revenue form the sport is fair enough but fining an amateur individual is not really on. However I do agree with motm, in that he obviously is trying to make some kind of statement by wearing different kit then the rest of his team. I was at the match and he did stand out. I reckon he was either told to wear them so his team mates could pick him out a little easier, or he feels he is brilliant and can do what he likes. If it is the first reason, then he should be fined for the semi, but seeing as Nemo have that fat b*stard Corkery in the final, it cancels out any advantage Crossmolina had, as both teams were better able pick out their target men. If it was the second reason he is not being fined enough!

I would say they are his lucky socks. Most forwards have some sort of thing they always do, wear etc to keep the luck gods happy.

The GAC are Fcuking ass monsters. I dont agree with fining any club ( excpt ballyboden St. Endas) whats 550 gona get them? a square inch of concrete in croke park ?

Now Al that is fighting talk, recommending they fine my clubmates, but not Meath men. Not even fighting talk, just downright insulting.

I heard he wore them so other players could pick him out, Im mean was the hair not bad enough.!

He wore white socks to his knees. not once but twice.

Its not allowed for understandable reasons.
Not allowed means, against the rules, breaking rules = punishment, punishment in this case = fine

(Personally, I'd like to see him get the electric chair, but i accept thats a bit harsh and it would only be cause he's a plonker aswell. A plonker being hard to define and regulate for)

    Wats the problem?

If he did wear them for that reason I would say he was told to so the club should be fined. I do not think you can fine a player, they have no revenue from the game so the GAA cannot have the authority to fine them.

Typical GAA - does anything they do make sense?

Stupid fine, some fat fuc with nothing to do in GAA headquarters!

Mc Donald has retired from Inter County football now, after getting stick from Mayo fans in his one and only league appearance against Fermanagh. John Maughan ( Mayo Manager) was on the radio this morning saying that he had a poor game by his own standards, and some of the crowd gave him a bit of stick. Mayo can't really afford to be losing players of his quality if they have any championship ambitions. They will be bet in Connaught now I think. I'd rate Sligo and Galway better then them now.

He's right to tell them where to go. Possibly the best footballer Mayo have had in 20 years and they treat him like a dog. You wouldnt mind the managers comments but the fans are undeserving of such a masterful incredible player if they treat him like that.
Its the same as Kilkenny fans if they were slagging DJ Carey or Tipperary slagging Eoin Kelly.

Yes but Carey and Kelly produce the goods in 4 out of 5 matches, when the chips are down he disappears, if the team are playing well he will, he is a good player when things are going good but shys off when he has to pull it out of the fire, his family do not deserved to get any abuse, but he should make the fans eat their words instead of turning his back on what he does best, BUT the abuse is not the only reason he is leaving, more to do what is going on between himself and maughan.
