Arranging HDD's/CD's on IDE

Right. Got a new machine last night \o/

    Came with a 40gig HDD, and a DVD/CD-RW combo.

I want to add a 20gig HDD (Linux) and a CD-ROM (for music).

Initial test last night worked out badly, and I was too tired to think.

Basically, putting the two HDD's on IDE-0 would give mixed results. With both on cable select, the Bootloader would tell me that a boot record was found on IDE-1 ( there were no cds loaded) and then would not boot anything.

With the 40gig as Master and the 20gig as slave, neither were detected :(

I'll probably put a HDD and a CD on each IDE with the HDDs as Master (as worked before), but can anyone tell me why it does this? Tis quite annoying.

    :)

    Main HD Master on 1
    Cd rom slave on 1

    CDRW Master on 2
    Linux as Slave on 2

Windows and your CDR will function better as masters.
Dunno much about Linux but assume it will function fine as a slave.
