I was going over last weeks papers when I noticed a piece on NTL Digitial. Sometime over the next 3 months they plan on launching 13 new Digital channels. These are meant to include entertainment and movie options. They will all be offered at no additional cost to Digital subscribers.

BTW this was from Thursdays Evening Herald.

Well I spent quite a bit of time on the phone today with both NTL and SKY. I was going to jump ship and deflect to SKY. They're offering €15 installation.

Anyways I found out that NTL are launching 4 channels within the month. They have been confirmed as:

    UK Gold
    UK Living
    AtTheRaces
    GOD Channel.

They are pushing to get all BBC channels too. Latest update on interactive is last 1/4 of this year.

UK Gold! Joy to the world! I've been looking for that channel on NTL since 1993... Was very superised when NTL Digital launched with no UKTV.

Its' been almost that long, BTW, since LivingTV was called UK Living... A bit like the old Lifestyle, shows endless Home and Away repeats though.

Attheraces and GOD Channel I couldn't care less about...

    Hopefully this all comes true...

What, are you joking me?? The God channel is even better than the Comedy Channel. I cant wait!! A channel full of Christian Fundies, Power to Changers, Creationists.....Praise the lord!!

    Hey all,

I've just heard from NTL Sales that the confirmed 4 channels above will be joined by another 13 channels (as yet unnamed). This in total gives us 17 new channels! This can only be good news for us Digital subscribers.

Whats the betting only Dublin gets these channels...?
NTL customers in Waterford and Galway are being overcharged as it stands.

I bet one of the channels will be E4+1. They already have a deal in place with cable companies to be on their line up from launch.

    E4+1 launches in July

any word on some new movie channels?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Forget that Caesar unless they add pay channels...

I was onto NTL by e-mail on Monday about channels and pricing I thought I'd share this with you-
    Dear Mr Mohan,
    _
I've been reading this week about a number of "new" channels coming to NTLs
digtal package, this prompted a thought I should have had long since.
    _
Here in Waterford (and in Galway) 6 music channels which Dublin subscribers
enjoy are not availible and yet we are all, as I understand it, paying the
same price for the digital service.
This hardly seems correct. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on
why the music channels are not avialible outside Dublin and why I am being
    charged for them.
    _
    Yours faithfully
    _
    *******.

    and the reply-
    Dear Mr ******
    _
The additional channels are unavailable in Galway and Waterford at present
as a result of a connectivity issue with Dublin. We hope to rectify this but
I cannot confirm when this will be, hopefully this year though.
    _
In relation to pricing, we did not increase the price of the package when we
launched the additional music channels last year, and in January this year
we actually reduced the price of the Go Digital package from EUR12.81 to
EUR11.50 per month in all areas. When we launch more additional channels in
the Go Digital package later this year we do not plan to increase the price
and ntl Ireland will carry the incremental cost of the channels from our
    channel providers.
    _
In summary, the pricing will remain the same in the three areas of Dublin,
Galway and Waterford, but there may be differences in the number of channels
available in the Go Digital package for some time to come.
    _
    Regards
    _
    Mark Mohan
    Marketing & Sales Director
    ntl Ireland

connection problems? WTF? It seems we "down the country" are definitly the poor cousins.

The only ones available to them that they could add are the Film 4 extra ones. I don't think that's really a priority to be honest.

TCM is the only basic package movie channel now operating in these islands. A pity really.

Yeah I know! The last I heard was they're being introduced now in June......best bet is to ring sales and ask them as they seem to know more than CC.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 2,884 Mod ✭✭✭✭celticfc

do yez think theres much chance of them actually gettin the BBC channels at all?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,427 ✭✭✭Dotsie~tmp

Excatly its NTL. Also Living is not a member of UKTV, do I'd be scepitcall of living being on NTL. It would be the same as someone in Sky saying RTE3(TV3) would be on Sky digital UK in June. NTL dropped in North East Dublin today(no surprise) Thank god for my Sky sub.:D

Why are so many prepared to pay through the roof for cable tv?

WHO CAN WATCH ALL THESE CHANNELS AT THE SAME TIME?

and our eurocrat friends in Bruxelles only pay 123 euro per year for 39 channels - the basic cheapest service -.....and then have extra pay channels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,031 ✭✭✭patrickmooney

We pay because we want the element of choice. We choose the provider who best fits our needs, we then choose the package which best fits our interests. For me this is NTL, and as I'm a channel surfer I chose the Digital Package.

These days we DO have the choice. We're not stuck in analogue 4 channel land anymore. If they suit, then stick. If you want more choice, you have to pay for it.

Great choice - UK Gold, UK Living, E4+1, BBC's, Bravo - If you're an Anglophile!
WHO CAN WATCH ALL THESE CHANNELS AT THE SAME TIME?

And with the added disadvantage that they are only accessable on the one tv
AND you cant even record one when another is being watched

A couple of years ago NTL had more choice and more versatility on it's analogue service than it has on it's digital service today
