Just wondering what the hell is to be expected in a written programming exam. Are you supposed to write out code or explain definitions or what.

Depends on the course. I'f it's an intro to programming course, there'll probably be a question with code snippets, asking you what's wrong with the code. Another section asking you write some code to do some basic tasks, and probably a few other sections dealing with simple sort/search algorithms and Basic Object Oriented design.

If you can write simple Java without having to look at a book every 20 seconds, then you'll do fine.

Exam papers are on the library website ::
    library.dit.ie

Search by title with your course name as the query and you should get your papers.
