i have a nokia phone with an infraed port and a contract phone with O2.

I intend to purcahse a latop and need to be able to use the net via the O2 phone.

    What options do i have?

Can i call any isp number like oceanfree etc?

Can i save money by adding the number to my friends and family thingy via O2?

What top speed can i get with O2?

    What will it cost?

Will it be tricky to setup?

    Thanks.

hi - the data access options open to you would depend on what nokia phone you have?

if it can do gprs you can add one of those tariffs to your bill, where you pay for X MB a month inclusive and X per KB if you go over (depends on the GPRS tariff option you choose)

for dial-up their max speed is 14.4k (with a compatible handset) - you can set this to an 086 number (not sure if they have an exclusion set up on it for the friends & family add-on)

1740 is their Internet & WAP support number who should be able to talk you through all the options - or post back your phone model and you can get a heads up before you call / know what you can ask for

hi - ok 14.4kbits/s dial-up is the best you are going to get with that handset

the O2 guide on 14.4kbits/s data is available here (PDF file):
    http://www.dol.ie/pdf/docs/17417.pdf

note the extra modem (init) string to set the modem up from 9.6kbits/s to the 14.4kbits/s

there are several user guides from nokia on how to set it up as a modem with various hardware here:
    http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,5184,5844,00.html

you can use any ISP, but there is an 086 one available so you get 'on network' 086 -> 086 call charges - you should be able to get the 086 dial-in details by calling 1740 - or i'll pull them out and post back if you hare having trouble getting them
