Anyone know anything about this card?

    ie Is it any good.

    Will it run UT2003 &/or C&C Generals?

Is it a good FX card or is it like the GF4 MX series?

*Actually, Mr Moderator could you please kick this to Technology section.
    Thanks

    Okay then:

    Ti4800SE or Ti4200 ?

depends on price diff, not much between imo, ive had a ti4600 128mb and a ti4200 64mb much of a muchness imo one u overclock the ti4200, could u stretch to a rad 9500 pro??

    much better card

Heres the facts. The 4800 is better than the 4200. Full stop. More RAM (will start making a bigger difference to new games soon).
8X AGP (No big deal), and its a 4400 at heart apart from that, which is better than 4200 by whatever margin. Sure you can overclock, a 4200, but I have a 4400 and you can clock them too !

If it's only 20 quid or so in the difference get the 4800. Its a fine card.

its an okay card, lags a good long way behind the 9500 pro esp with aa or af enabled. not bad for games over the past yr but will struggle on brand new games like splinter cell.

the extra 128mb ram makes a lot less diff than u think, and by the time games properly utilise it the ti series will be too slow

But doesn't the Ti4800 run at 350Mhz whilst the Radeon 9500 at only 275?

Theres less than 20 euro between the two of them.
    (167e vs 183e)

Yes we are talking about the 64Mb versions.
Its to replace a Radeon 9000 with only a small budget increase. (so Pro is out)

you wouldnt be comparing like with like core speeds would matter not if architecture is fundamentally different, besides afaik ti 4800 runs at 275 not 350.

if its b/w ti 4800 and 9500 non pro get the 4800, however ull need to upgrade again soon tbh and it would be better to stretch urself a bit now rather than need to upgrade gain soon.

imo the 9700 non pro at 285 is the best deal going

I wouldn't worry too much bout the clock speed there, the 9500 is the better card alright, but since your question was about a 4200 vs a 4800, I'd go for a 4800 given the small price difference.

Should be a similar performer to my GF4 Ti4400 128MB, which I run in a VIAKT400 based system with an AMD XP2100. It has no problems at all with splinter cell. Runs smooth as silk on high detail, and 1280*1024 resolution. Also no problems with the likes of Unreal 2 etc...

Doom 3 though, that might be a different story. But it will still play it and play it well no doubt, ID are in it for the money, you won't get all the bells and whistles but the effect will be almost as good (probably same difference playing UT2003 on a 1.2 AMD w GF2 ti, vs' playing it on a GF4ti with an XP2400. Both look great and to the casual observer, you have to look for the differences.(although they are there, you can still enjoy the game, and still experience great graphics)

really mate, im not doubting you but when i had my ti 4600 (i had sold my 9700 as i needed the cash) i found splinter cell very slow at 1280*1024 with everything on high, this was on an nforce 2 system with a tbred at 2.3 gigs and ram running at 210 fsb??

and lots of other people reported similar probs?

it slowed down to like 15 fps when any lighting effects were used!!

Thanks guys. Looks like it will be the 4800.

(btw I doubt its ever going to play at 1280*1024 or higher)
