Course you have a hope - anyone can beat anyone - especially on the dafter levels. I guarantee you if I played Ser, and picked E1M7 - if I happened to spawn nearer the RL/GL, the match would be over (unless I did something REALLY stupid..possible...even likely!!) and the best player in Ireland would find himself getting whooped royally by a muppet and having nowhere to hide. Course then he'd take me to any other level and give it back with interest.
