Ok, my hard drive has been acting up a bit recently, with strange clinks and clanks and the such, so I am looking to buy a new one before it gives up the ghost. Apart from sticking in a Zip drive, I haven't bought any upgrades, so before I fork out my dosh, I was wondering if what I'm looking at is suitable for my machine, and what the difference (if any) is between the two I singled out. I'm presuming (cause I'm almost sure) that it's a 3.5" IDE I'm looking for.

    The first is:
    Maxtor IDE ATA-133 80GB 7200RPM
    - DiamondMax Plus 9 (here) - €105.13

    and the other is:
    Maxtor IDE ATA-133 80GB 7200RPM
    - DiamondMax Plus 9 8 MB cache (here) - €121.30

The machine's a late 2000 Dell with these specs:

    Motherboard
    Board: IntelCorporation D815EEA
    Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
    BIOS: Intel Corp. A11 06/11/2002

    Processor
    733 megahertz Intel Pentium III
    32 kilobyte primary memory cache
    256 kilobyte secondary memory cache

    Current Drive
    QUANTUM FIREBALLP LM30.0 (30.02 GB)

    Controllers
Intel(r) 82801BA Bus Master IDE Controller
    Primary IDE Channel [Controller]
    Secondary IDE Channel [Controller]

bought the first one from komplett a few months ago,
works like a gem and it's really quiet.
technically wise both will work so I wouldn't wory about specs too much.
