GeForce 4600 now not installing...

I'm having quite a worrying problem with a GeForce 4600.
It seemed to start off last night after I had installed another
512MB DIMM into the machine, I was just going to run 3dMark
as a quick test of the system to make sure everything was okay.

But as soon as I tried to run the benchmark, 3dMark reported an
error saying roughly that there was insufficient memory on the
video card (it has 128MB). I looked at the error in more detail and
it was reporting the Texture memory on the card as 3MB.

I then tried kicking off Quake 3, this seemed to start up fine, but
that's running OpenGL. I then tried a DirectX game, but that just
changed video modes for a while and returned with an error
relating to being unable to create a DirectX component.

At this point I was thinking that maybe the detonator drivers had
become corrupt, so I then removed the old drivers and then tried
to reinstall the detonator drivers again. The driver installation
went fine, then it asked me to reboot, upon reentering Windows
it's in VGA mode and a Windows popup says that there is a
problem with the video adapter, the problem was that
    the "drivers were not installed".

I then removed the extra DIM and reseated the video card (it
didn't seem to be at all loose) and retried to install the drivers,
still the same problem. The machine is working, but only in VGA
    mode.

I'm not sure that this problem only occurred yesterday, as for the
last few days I had only be doing some development work and
creating MP3's, the only game I'd put on was Quake 3 and that
was OpenGL, so it could have been lurking there for a while.

    So any opinions?
Has anyone heard of anything like this?
Is there a separate DirectX part of the video card that could
    cease functioning?
I'm going to try a reinstall of Windows and see if that get's me
any further, if it doesn't the problem must be with the video card
(which is only six months old, and never OC'd)

    Win 98 SE
    GeForce 4600 (128MB ViVo)
    512MB/1GB RAM
    MSI KT333 Ultra ARU
    Athlon XP 1900+
    Any other info just ask...

Have you got the latest version of the DirectX drivers? (Version 9.0a I think)
How about the latest detonator drivers?

After that I would look for any info about issues with the card that have been detailed by the manufacturer/nVidia/Microsoft.
If you find nothing there I'd recommend sending an e-mail to the manufacturer.
After that, if you had the opportunity to test it in a friends computer that could help narrow the problem.
If you get nowhere with anything then I'd suggest getting in touch with the folks you bought it from. They should be able to give some help either with replacement or repairs. The card should be under some kind of waranty.
Presumably you've done nothing other than use the card in the standard, expected way and in that case the product has then failed and should be replaced for you.

    My 2c.
