Monitor timings [GDF] vs [DMT]

    Just wondering if anyone knows the practical differences between the two, my monitor can handle both... and when switching between them, I can't see any visual difference to speak of... (except for having to re-center the image).
    I've tried googling for answers, but most pages explain it in very general terms... and don't compare the two.

    Has anyone looked into this?
    Any major differences?
    Is there any point in even wondering about the difference when they both work... is it just there for the sake of compatibility?
    Or does one offer marginally better visual quality over the other?

    Just something I was pondering earlier.
