well the pings you are getting are acceptable, but they could be a lot better. For instance, this is what I'm getting with eircom:

Were you dl'ing at about 60KB/s on kazaa when you did your test? Maybe it's just me, but I would have thought that would have some impact on the original posters numbers?

    dl'ing at about 60KB/s

Pings are a bit unstable- up and down - but still 3 times faster than netsource.
They dont look anything to be worried about.

    However - downloading at 60KB/s ?

Thats Highly impressive - (60*8=480) 480kbits/s is about the max you could get on a 512K line. You must be one of very few on your exchange - or you were downloading a 10am or something.

UTVs gaming pings have always been quite poor compared to other ISPs and thats on all connections broadband, isdn and 56k, my cousin used oceanfree and used to ping 150-220 on uk gaming servers with his 56k modem, now on utv he is lucky to dip below a ping of 280, lucky for him tho he is gettin rid of it already and signed up for ntl broadband.

Using IBB in Blanchardstown. They updated the mast/changed something there yesterday, but the pings are unbelievable at the moment:

I wish i wasn't on tallaght, speeds are also way down lately. Pings have been a helluva lot worse. :(

I havent been using my Netsource account for the last 6 weeks -
I was so fed up with 200ms pings and rubbish download speeds that
I canceled it and never logged in again.
Thought I'd try it again...before my two months cancellation notice kicks in.

No, it's like that all the time now. Has been for the last month or so since they brought in the cap. Stopped taking on any more residential customers too, so it should (hopefully) be staying like this.

    sssshhhhhh! don't jinx it.

it's so sweet. i'm loving the internet all the time, games whenever i want. used to be off-peak game times only, now it's 24x7 kick ass, and no d/loads slowing down either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,216 ✭✭✭Kur4mA

I have to agree here, as i have also noticed a HUGE improvement with netsource since the cap was intoduced and they stopped taking on residential customers. :D

i agree, playing multiplayer games before 6pm is great

Could people post the time of day when they did the pings when they post results.. A comparison of connection condition between peak times (arounds 8pm) and more off peak times would be quite useful to find out what the ISP is like under pressure or do people find their connections steady throughout the day and night?

I'm used to using a wireless connection with Irish Wisp, and after 7pm, the signal deteriorates greatly with the added interference, so I want to change over to DSL for some stability as it's just getting worse and worse as more and more people clog up 802.11 channels to the point where it is unusable some nights..

At the start I was getting 100kbyte/sec.. now some nights it can be down around 10kbyte with regular disconnects and it never gets over 50k

Theres a timestamp on each posting. I imagine this would be the time the test was done.

True enough.. What I meant to say, was if people were to post pings/speeds from multiple periods, to put the times on them
